History Raytheon Company was founded in 1922, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with the name American Appliance Company.

Two former college roommates, Laurence K. Marshall and Vannevar Bush, made the company a young scientist who had developed the prototype for a home refrigerator, Charles G. Smith. The refrigerator idea failed so they turned to a tube that could eliminate batteries in the radio and allow it to be plugged into the wall. Introduced to the public in 1925, the tube was very successful making over one million dollars by the end of 1926. Since then they have had many other innovations like the first commercial microwave ovens, the mass production of magnetron tubes, early shipboard radar, the first successful missile guidance system, a space communications system, mobile radiotelephones, and Terminal Doppler Weather Radar. What Raytheon Produces The company is among leaders in many areas nowadays like Integrated Defense Systems, Intelligence and Information Systems, Missile Systems, Network Centric Systems, Raytheon Technical Services Company, and Space and Airborne systems. Integrated Defense Systems provides technology for U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security. Who the Hire Raytheon employs engineers in many different field and areas of expertise. This is because they company is so diverse. The kind of people they look for is what would be expected from a successful company like Raytheon. They look for people who can handle teamwork, and are good with others. They want people with integrity, who are trustworthy.

For example, they want someone who does not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerated those who do. They look for people who can be committed to the company and committed to excellence. Computers within the Company With a company as technology integrated as Raytheon is, computers are used in almost every aspect of the company. It would probably be difficult to name an aspect of the company that does not use and rely on computers greatly.
