T

his book was written because of the persistentrequest from pupils, that the magical workingsto transmute suffering and combat evil shouldbe shared with the world at large. I was reluctant at

rst; but in my subsequent travels around the world

I saw great need among esoteric practitioners and

groups to engage in workings that help humanity. It

became clear to me that, unless workings such as theseare shared, how will those drawn to occult work everknow what the highest aspect of ceremonial magic, of

Theurgy, is all about?Mesoteric schools are organised study-groups

who study metaphysics from a theoretical perspective;their motto is: “I shall watch with interest - I will

observe.” But an Esoteric School, on the other hand,

possesses practical metaphysical knowledge, which whenapplied, brings about results; so the occult motto is: “I

desire to Know in order to Serve.”

It has always fallen upon esoteric schools and

groups to keep the spiritual impulse in civilisationalive, and to guard it, if need be. However, it is not

a matter of the incarnate mages deciding what they

will, or won’t, work for. That is far too prone to error.Our personal subconscious inclinations, as well as thereligious, cultural and historic loadings which we inheritprevent us from having a clear spiritual overview. It is

only by co-operating with Those-who-Know, with thespiritual Hierarchy, that we can know that the workingsundertaken are ‘Willed from Above;’ that we are indeedco-operating with the Divine Will.Any esoteric school or group, worthy of the

name, must have conscious contact with beings in theHigher Worlds. However, these contacts can not be just

any astral entity; because, like the physical plane, the

Astral Plane too has its share of criminals and swindlers.Esoteric contacts have to be spiritual Intelligences – of the level of Briah – those of the grade that the Bible

poetically calls, “the Just Ones made Perfect.” These

are the ‘Masters of Wisdom’ who are the spearhead

of evolution; collectively they are variously called: theCommunion of Saints, the Great White Lodge, the Holy

Council, or the Withdrawn Order.Although the Masters seem to be apart from

their fellow humans, they really do participate mostactively in all human affairs. They have completed theirown evolution, but, out of love, they remain to help

humankind on its climb to the heights of Liberation.

Only the Masters of Wisdom have the eagle-eyed

overview of what is destined for individuals, for nations,

and for humanity. That the Masters of Service reallydo take part in world-affairs is, to me, an unshakableconviction, based on my inner and outer experiences. Iam as certain, as I live, that they continuously broadcastthe Beckoning Light, guiding us upwards. And I gladlyadd my testimony to the reports of others, that longbefore nal liberation is gained, we become aware

of the Masters’ help and guidance, and of their real

presence in our lives. It was they who inspired the

workings described in this book.Another aspect of authentic esoteric work

should be understood: human free-will is sacrosanct. Nobeing in Divine service will issue ‘commands.’ That is adeceit used by lying spirits and demons. Ultimately Godis the only authority, all else is advice - no matter howexalted the source of the advice. There has been too

much blind obedience paid to Inner sources. We have

seen it in various suicidal cults, and in ‘channelling’ New
