Measuring soft work-
pieces

Further components are:
RDS/XXT Adapter plate only in connection with RDS
articulating head
VAST XXT Changer rack One unit with three holders for
the stylus holder.
The unit is attached to the profile
rail of a change rack.
Stylus kit There are three different stylus
system kits.
For conversions of a CMM , conversion parts may additionally be nec-
essary. Moreover, the system requirements must be observed.
Application
The VAST XXT probing system can be used universally. It is possible to
probe discrete points or perform scannings. Measurements performed
with this system provide information on the dimensions, position and
form of a workpiece.
Characteristics
= Scanning
= Automatic stylus system change
— Low deviation by measuring system
= Robustness
— Different probe variants are available, — depending on the stylus
length and application
Advantages
The VAST XXT is particularly suitable for measuring soft workpieces.
Due to the low measuring force, deformations on the workpiece and
thus incorrect measurements are avoided.
Use
The VAST XXT can be used in two ways:
— in combination with the RDS articulating head > “RDS/XXT prob-
ing system” on page 2-35
— as central probe on a rigid adapter.
The adapter is attached to the ram. The second possibility is not
possible for all CMMs.

Stylus holder
The stylus holder is held magnetically and can be inserted manually or
automatically. The three outer spheres on the stylus holder serve for
adjusting the correct position in the stylus holder receptacle. The cor-
rect fit of these spheres is monitored electronically. The fourth sphere
servers for mechanically coding the stylus holder type.
Laterally on the stylus holder, there are black markings at a distance of
120°. The markings are in the form of one, two or three dots. They
serve for a better orientation when inserting the stylus holder. A spe-
ial stylus holder is provided for each design version.
1. The inner sphere serves for the mechanical coding of the different stylus
holders; a stylus holder for TL1 is shown.
With TL2, the inner sphere is even closer to the magnet.

wun
The arrangement of the pair of spheres is different in TL1 and TL2
Thereby it is prevented that accidentally the wrong stylus holder is
inserted in the probe.
The correct fit of the stylus holder must be checked.
* Tr to carefully twist the stylus holder.
if you feel a slight resistance, then the stylus holder fits correctly in
the receptacle of the probe.
The 18-pole VAST XXT probe requires a stylus holder with ID chip. Sty-
lus holders without ID chip are no longer supported.
