2012
Sources of Capital Funds
The Gadsden Board of Education has three
sources of funding for capital improvements :
1)
General Obligation Bonds - Voters approved
$36,000,000 in the February 2010 bond
election. Proceeds are used for major build-
ing and renovation projects.
2)
Public Schools Capital Outlay Act - The dis-trict can apply to the state for matching funds
to construct, improve and renovate schoolfacilities. Priority for these funds is set by
using the statewide educational adequacy
standards.
3)
Two Mil Capital Improvements Tax Levy -
Currently in place. Re-approval
of this tax
levy will keep this source of funding in place
for 6 years. These funds are used for main-
taining the school facilities and providing
equipment for the schools. The tax pro-
duces over $1,300,000 per year. The Dis-trict receives matching funds of approxi-mately $2,300,000 as long as the mil levy
has been approved by the voters of the Dis-
trict.
