Area Profile
Adams
(Pop. 1,800) is a small rural town located 114 kilometers north of Laoag City. Itis a mountain community, home to a number of indigenous tribes (Isneg, Apayao, Igorot,among others). The major source of income of residents is farming/agriculture. Farmersearn an average daily income of only US$2.00.
Dumalneg
(Pop. 1,400) is another small rural town located 85 kilometers north of LaoagCity. It also sits on a mountain top and is home to indigenous peoples. Residents are intofarming and furniture making. It shares a very similar profile to Adams.
Laoag City
(Pop. 120,000) is the capital of the Province of Ilocos Norte. It is located 488kilometers north of Manila, the nation’s capital.
The Bikes
Mountain Bikes
(MTB). Twenty (20) bikes were purchased from ACT Bicycle Shop inLaoag City at a discounted price of PhP2,600.00, or $60.00 (SRP: PhP3,200 or $73.00).The bikes were purchased brand new and were all made in China.
Japanese Bikes
. Five (5) bikes were purchased at the Port of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur atan average price of PhP2,000.00, or $46.00. These bikes were bought second-hand and just refurbished in the Philippines.
