Husky Quick hitters...

Lorenzo Romar needs one win to earn No. 300 overall in his 16 year career and No. 100 in conference play. He claimed his 200th win as UWs coach vs. UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 16. Romar is also three losses short of 200 for his career. The Feb. 2 game vs. UCLA will be Romars 500th overall as a head coach. The Nov. 14 game vs. Portland was the 300th at UW. Terrence Ross became the 3rd different Husky to win Pac-12 Player of the Week on Jan. 16, joining C.J. Wilcox and Tony Wroten as the rst UW trio to win the award in the same season. UW is the only Pac-12 team that has 3 players ranked among the conferences top-10 in scoring or top-15 in rebounding. Tony Wroten is 2nd in scoring (16.6), C.J. Wilcox is 5th (15.5) and Terrence Ross is 7th (15.1). Aziz NDiaye ranks 2nd in rebounding (8.2 rpg), Ross 6th (6.5 rpg) and Desmond Simmons 11th (6.2). Terrence Ross is the only Pac-12 player to be ranked in the top-10 in both scoring and rebounding. Huskies that lead the Pac-12 in statistical categories are: Abdul Gaddy - assist/turnover ratio (2.5 - 84 asst/53 turnovers), C.J. Wilcox - FT% (.900, 36-40) and Wilcox - 3-pt FG makes per game (2.8).

UW leads the Pac-12 in total rebounds and ranks 9th nationally and is second with 78.1 points per game to rank 25th nationally. Tony Wroten has shot 33% of the Huskies free throws this season. He has 137 of the teams 410 attempts. C.J. Wilcox is the 10th player in UW history with 100 or more career 3-pointers. He ranks 9th all-time in UW history with 107. The 57 points that Washington scored against Utah were the second fewest in a Husky victory during the Lorenzo Romar era. On Dec. 23, 2005, the Huskies beat Lehigh 54-37. Tony Wroten became just the 7th player in UW history with 7 or more steals when he did it at Colorado and was the rst since Joel Smith on Dec. 22, 2004. Wroten is the rst freshman to be named Pac-12 player of the week since O.J. Mayo earned the honor for USC on Feb. 25, 2008. It was the 44th time UW has won the award, but just the second time a freshman has taken home the honor (Spencer Hawes, 12/26/06). Tony Wroten leads all Pac-12 freshmen in scoring, steals and assists. He ranks 3rd among all freshmen nationally in scoring and leads all BCS conference freshmen. Wroten would set a new UW freshman scoring record if he maintained his scoring average over 34 games. The Huskies have 870 wins inside Hec Edmundson Pavilion, more than any other program in their current arena.

a Alaska Airlines Arena At Hec Edmundson Pavilion

UW Leads Division I With Most All-Time Wins At Their Home Arena Washington has 870 wins inside of Hec Edmundson Pavilion, the most by any Division I team at its current home arena. Minnesota has the next most at its arena -- Williams Arena -- more than 50 behind UW. Friendly Connes Of Home Losing at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion is rare under coach Lorenzo Romars watch. The Huskies had won a school record 32 straight non-conference games at Alaska Airlines Arena, dating back to a 72-71 home loss on March 14, 2008 in the College Basketball Invitational to Valparaiso, before South Dakota State beat them on Dec. 18. In 10 years with Romar at the helm, UW is 139-27 (.837) overall at home, 73-6 (.924) in non-Pac-12 games. In 2010-11, Washington won by an average of +20.8 points at home and dating back to the 2010 season had won a team-record 14-straight games by 10 or more points before losing to WSU on Feb. 27, 2011. Naming Rights Of Alaska Airlines Arena Alaska Airlines and the University of Washington announced a partnership in 2011 to rename UWs on-campus basketball arena Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The arena sponsorship is part of a ve-year agreement to support University of Washington Athletics approved by the universitys Board of Regents. Alaska Airlines has committed $525,000 annually in cash and trade for the arena naming rights in addition to the airlines $175,000 ongoing athletics sponsorship. Court signage, including the Alaska Airlines logo, were unveiled at the Arizona game and exterior signage was installed during the summer of 2011.

Noteworthy...
Injury Report C.J. Wilcox missed the WSU game with a stress fracture in his left femur. The injury could keep him out for two weeks. Tony Wroten suffered a bruised tailbone vs. Seattle U and injured left wrist, but was able to play through the pain. The Huskies are already without Scott Suggs who broke his foot earlier this year and will redshirt the season. Ross Is Boss Terrence Ross had a coming out party of sorts against Washington State with 30 points and 14 rebounds. He scored 24 of those points in the second half to help the Huskies overcome a double-digit decit. Ross currently ranks seventh in the Pac-12 in scoring and is tied for sixth in rebounds making him the only confererence player to rank in the top-10 in both categories. Wins Vs. Losses, Statistically Speaking The Huskies are scoring 82.2 ppg in wins and 71.7 in losses (+10.5). The Dawgs are giving up 67.7 points per game in wins and 80.9 in losses (-13.2). UW is shooting 46.6% from the eld in wins, but 43.2% in losses. Opponents shoot 39.0% in losses but 47.8% in wins. In wins, UW is +3.3 in the turnover margin and average 14.5 assists per game. In losses, UW is -2.9 in the turnover margin and averages 12.0 assists per game. UW is 10-2 in games in which they commit fewer turnovers than their opponent. UW shoots 42.7% from 3-point range in wins, but just 27.1% in losses. The opponents shoot 33.0% from 3-point range in UW wins but kick it up to 41.7% in UW losses. Guardedly Optimistic A huge reason behind the Huskies success this season has been the play of the backcourt. The UW prominently uses a seven-man rotation with four guards. Those four guards - Tony Wroten, C.J. Wilcox, Terrence Ross and Abdul Gaddy - are the teams top four scorers and top four in minutes per game. The foursome account for 69% of the teams scoring. Wilcox Among UWs Best Bombers C.J. Wilcox eclipsed the century mark for 3-point makes in his Husky career on Jan. 5 at Colorado. He is just the 10th UW player with 100 or more. He accomplished the feat in 47 games. Heres a look at Wilcox as he climbs the UW charts: UW Career 3-pt FG Makes Leaders No Player Years Att.

Husky Pac-12 Players Of The Week Husky players have won Pac-12 Player of the Week honors three times this year. It marks the rst time in team history three different players have won the award in the same year. Since 2005, UW has led the conference by winning the award 22 times (Arizona 19 is second). Terrence Ross was the latest to earn the honor after averaging 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.5 assists in wins over Seattle and WSU. Tony Wroten was named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 2 after he averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game as UW swept OSU and Oregon. It was just the second time a UW freshman has taken the weekly award (also Spencer Hawes, Dec. 26, 2006) and the rst time a conference freshman has earned the honor since USCs O.J. Mayo on Feb. 25, 2008. C.J. Wilcox earned the very rst award in the history of the Pac-12s formation after taking home MVP honors during the World Vision Classic. Wroten Reaching For Fresh Records Tony Wroten scored 27 points vs. UC Santa Barbara to tie a Husky freshman single-game scoring record. Four other Huskies -- Isaiah Thomas (2008), Mark Sanford (1995), UW assistant coach Paul Fortier (1983) and Andra Grifn (1978) -- tallied. Wroten has scored 20+ in a team-best four games (vs. Duke, UC-Santa Barbara, South Dakota St. and vs. OSU). At his current pace, Wroten could threaten the UW freshman record for points in a season. Isaiah Thomas scored 541 in 35 games as a freshman and averaged 15.5 ppg. Another record Wroten may assault is free throw attempts by a freshman. Thomas shot 202, an average of 5.9 attempts per game. Wroten has shot 137 so far this season for 7.6 attempts per game. The all-time record regardless of class is 242 by Louie Nelson in 1973. Huskies Hard To Beat At Home Over the last several years, the Huskies have proven to be nearly impossible to beat at home. UW had won a school record 32-straight non-conference games in the friendly connes of Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion before falling to South Dakota State on Dec. 18. The Dawgs last lost at home against a nonPac-12 opponent on March 14, 2008 vs. Valparaiso. Since a Dec. 3, 2004 loss at home vs. Gonzaga, UW is 62-3 vs. out-of-conference opponents at home (the other loss came vs. No. 12 Pittsburgh on Dec. 8, 2007). Sons Of Sonics Shawn Kemp Jr. is not the rst Husky player to come from NBA lineage -- specically sons of Seattle Sonics. Players attended seminars on the history of Broadway, the study and reading of plays plus the basics of acting, directing and producing in theater. In New York, the team attended Memphis on and the Lion King. They also visited the set of CBSs Person of Interest, starring former Mount Vernon, Wash. native Jim Caviezel. Caviezel met with the players and the team was allowed to watch lming of the show. UW drama professor Sarah Nash Gates taught the 2-credit independent study course and accompanied the Huskies in New York and onto Broadway to give expert eyes to what the players are seeing.

have red-shirted during their Husky careers -- also Darnell Gant, C.J. Wilcox and Desmond Simmons. Introducing The Young Pups Of Washingtons 15-man roster, eight players will be seeing their rst college action. Seven are true freshmen and one is a red-shirt freshman. The Huskies have never have as many freshmen on their varsity squad to start a season. The collection of newcomers is headlined by 6-foot-5 Tony Wroten, who was one of the top point guard recruits last year. The most familiar name of the group is 6-foot-9 Shawn Kemp, Jr. who is the son of the former Sonics legend. Guard Hikeem Stewart is also a familiar name as his brothers -- twins, Rodrick (USC/Kansas) and Lodrick (USC) -- played collegiately. Forward Martin Breunig and Jernard Jarreau give UW three newcomers that stand taller than 6-foot-8. Forward Desmond Simmons redshirted last season and is chomping at to be unleashed. Alex Wegner is a capable walk-on that played in four state tournaments while at Vashon Island HS, and Andrew Andrews is a touted point guard from Oregon. Andrews and Jarreau will redshirt this season. UW vs. Top-10 Teams The Huskies faced No. 7 Duke on Dec. 10, the rst time this year they have faced a top-10 ranked teamLast year, UW play three teams that were ranked in the top-10 at the time -- all losses. The Huskies are 33-121 all-time against teams ranked in the top-10 -including 2-19 on a neutral court -- and 9-18 in Romars 10 years. The Huskies last win over a top-10 team was in 2010s second round of the NCAA Tournament when they soundly beat No. 8 New Mexico. Vs. Ranked Foes The Huskies are 0-2 against teams ranked in the AP top-25 during the season, losing to Duke and Marquette. Their last win came over No. 16 Arizonza in the championship of the 2011 Pac-10 tournament. Overall, the UW is 28-59 against AP ranked opponents since Jan. 1, 2000. UW has won its last four against ranked foes in the connes of Alaska Airlines Arena and are 16-5 over the last 21 contests against ranked foes at home. Overall, Washington is 19-14 all-time at home during the decade. UW had lost its previous 8 decisions against ranked non-conference opponents before ending a three-year drought by beating Texas A&M on Dec. 22. 20 Wins In 2011 the Huskies won 20 games for the fth time under Lorenzo Romar and for the 26th time overall in team history. The only other Husky coach with more 20-win seasons is Hec Edmundson, who accomplished the feat 11 times from 1928-1945. Washington won 76 games during a three seasons span from 2009-11 (26 in 2009, 26 in 2010, 24 in 2011), the second most in a 3-year stretch trailing only 77 from 1951-53 under Tippy Dye. Excellence In Academics According to a 2010 nding, under the direction of Lorenzo Romar, UW is graduating its players. Through 2010, of the 23 players recruited by Romar that did not transfer to another school, 19 of them have graduated. Stuck In Neutral? After the NYC trip, UW is 5-9 in regular season neutral site games (1-9 in the last 10) during Lorenzo Romars 10-year tenure at the school. But, when it counts during the post-season, the Huskies are stellar on neutral site courts. The Huskies are 13-5 under Romar at the Pac-10 Tournament and have won three conference championships. UW is 8-6 on neutral sites for the NCAA tournament and have made three Sweet 16 appearances. Welcome Back Gaddy The game vs. Georgia State was Abdul Gaddys rst game since playing at UCLA on Dec. 31, 2010. Gaddy scored 7 points, grabbed a career-high 7 rebounds and dished 6 assists. His play caused Georgia States coach Ron Hunter to state: The key to their basketball team, is that point guard. (He) controls everything. When he plays well, theyre going to be hard to beat. That kids really good. You can see the glitter with the other guys, but that point guard hes special. Gaddy is returning from a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his left knee suffered during practice on Jan. 4, 2011. Gaddy was cleared to return to action on Sept. 7, 2011 and has hardly missed a beat. He does not play with a brace and has competed fully since practice started in October. Gaddy was leading the Pac-10 in assist to turnover ratio at 3.1 (49 assists/16 turnovers) when he went down last season. His 3.8 assists per game was the seventh best average in the Pac-10 Conference and he also ranked ninth in three-point shooting percentage (40.6%). Seeing Red (Shirts) Scott Suggs, Jernard Jarreau and Andrew Andrew will all redshirt this season. Suggs joined the freshmen on the bench after announcing his decision on Dec. 9. Jarreau, a 6-foot-10 freshman, announced his decision on Nov. 12 after not playing in the rst game vs. Georgia State. Andrews came to Washington this summer fully intent on redshirting his rst season. Those three join a long list of Huskies on the roster that
