2011-12 UW Men’s Basketball Husky Notes
Last Time Out Vs. Stanford
Isaiah Thomas scored 14 of his 22 points in the final three minutesof the first half, Venoy Overton had his best game of the season with12 off the bench, and Washington beat Stanford 87-76 on Feb. 12,2011. Washington avenged a loss in January at Stanford when theHuskies blew an 11-point lead in the final 9 minutes and sufferedtheir first Pac-10 setback. This time, the Cardinal served as valida-tion that the Huskies have corrected the problems that surfaced aweek ago during their three-game losing streak. Thomas missed hisfirst four shots, then caught fire at the end of the first half, helpingthe Huskies to a 48-31 lead at the break. Jeremy Green scored 24points for Stanford (13-11, 6-7), his fourth straight game scoring atleast 20. The 87 points scored by Washington were the most al-lowed this season by the Cardinal and just the second time any team topped 80 on Stanford.
UW’s Last Game - vs. Cal (1/19)
AP - Allen Crabbe scored 16 points, unheralded walk-on Robert Thurman added a career-high 16 off the bench, and California remained in at least a tie for first place in the Pac-12 with a critical 69-66 win over Washingtonon Thursday night. Justin Cobbs added 14 points, including a key 3-pointer from the corner in front of his ownbench with 2:28 left that gave California (16-4, 6-1 Pac-12) a 66-58 lead. He later split a pair of free throwswith 8.2 seconds left to put the Golden Bears up by three. After a timeout, Washington’s Darnell Gant got anopen look at a 3-pointer to tie the game, but missed off the front rim. It capped a miserable night for Gant, who was 0 for 9 from the field, including six misses from behind the arc. Terrence Ross led Washington (11-7,4-2) with 15 points, including a pair of late 3s.
Romar Nearing Some Milestones
Lorenzo Romar needs one win to earn No. 300 overall in his 16-year career and No. 100 in Pac-10/12 action. On Dec. 16 he reached 200 wins as the Huskies’ head man. It took Romar 306 games over 10 years to reachwin No. 200. He is the second fastest Husky coach to reach the milestone. Hec Edmundson won No. 200 inhis 258th career game during the first game of his 13th season. Romar has several other milestone numbersupcoming: the Feb. 2 contest at home vs. UCLA will be the 500th game of Romar’s 16-year coaching career. With three more losses he will reach 200 in his overall career.
