Who are the counselors?
The counselors are doctoral students in the counseling program at New Mexico State University. Animportant part of their training is gaining counseling experience within the community. They alsoincorporate problem solving and other techniques as necessary, and value working together in thedirection of the goals of the client.
What is individual counseling?
In individual counseling, the client and the counselor typically meet once a week for 6 to 8 weeks forapproximately 50 minute sessions. Some clients choose to meet for fewer or more sessions based on theirneeds and goals. Individual counseling offers a space where the client can discuss any concerns, worriesor problems he/she may be experiencing, in addition to any potential areas of growth. Clients speak abouta variety of topics, some which include (but are not limited to) stress management, familycommunication, partners relationships, personal development, and grief and loss. What is group counseling?
Group counseling involves a small group of people (usually 4-8) who meet together weekly with thecounselors to talk about their struggles, problems, and/or areas of growth. These groups can take avariety of forms. Some focus on a specific topic or problem, while others address a number of differentconcerns. In group counseling, clients typically share their experiences, ideas, and concern with thecounselors and the group as a whole, and often support and learn from one another in the process.
