The teams assignment in Aceh is to uncover several cases there, especially shooting cases, National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo said Thursday as quoted by tempo.co. He explained that the team would help the Aceh Police expose the perpetrators and motives of the recent shootings in the region. Currently, he said, the police officers handling the cases were investigating the crime scenes and were analyzing information from witnesses. We are waiting for the overall result of the investigation, he said. Between early December 2011 and early January 2012, there have been five shooting incidences in Aceh. The shootings, which occurred in North Aceh, Banda Aceh, Bireuen and Aceh Besar, killed 10 people and injured 13 others, including workers from outside of Aceh. According to the police, the five attacks were very similar in the way they were executed. In each incident, the perpetrator approached the victim on a motorbike, fired sporadically and fled. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earlier said that the shootings were related to the upcoming gubernatorial election in February, while others suspect they were related to access to employment.
