The Ajax Copper-Gold Project: Building on a History of Mining
Mining and mineral exploration have contributed to thegrowth and prosperity o the Kamloops region or more thana century and this resource-rich district hosts several historicand operating mines, along with many active exploration anddevelopment projects such as the Ajax project.Mineral exploration began in the Thompson Nicola regionin the 1880s when copper, gold and iron mineralization wasdiscovered at the Iron Mask Mine near Kamloops. The original Aton copper deposit was ound by ChesterF. Millar in the mid-1960s and was operated as the AtonMine ollowing Teck’s acquisition o Millar’s company. Teckoperated the Aton mine – including two satellite pits,Crescent and Pothook – and the East and West Ajax pits rom1987 until 1997 when the mine closed.Exploration began at the Ajax deposit in 2005 and resulted inthe discovery o a large low-grade copper-gold deposit. The project has been pursued ever since; rstly by AbacusMining & Exploration Corp. and beginning in 2010, byKGHM Ajax Mining Inc.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The proposed Ajax project inrastructure includes: an open pit, aprocessing plant, a thickened tailings storage acility, two waste rockacilities, explosives storage and access roads.
Ajax Pit
Design size o 261 hectares at lieo mine. The project will use conventionalblast, load and haul methods.Initially, mined ore will be moved bytruck but later in the mine lie, in-pit crushing, conveyance and wastestacking systems will partiallyreplace trucks moving the ore.
Processing Plant
Will be built in a valley to orm anatural barrier rom Kamloops andJacko Lake.Copper and gold are separatedrom the ore using a conventionalfotation process.
Tailings Storage Facility
3.0km L x 1.4km W x 150m HSize o up to a maximum o 376hectares at lie o mine.Proposed design is a single reestanding compound with raisedembankments.Thickened tailings require lessresh water than conventionaltailings.Rock will be used to constructthe surace erosion cover andprovide a solid base or concurrentreclamation.
Waste RockManagement Facilities
North Waste Dump:1.9km L x 2.3km W x 140m HEast Waste Dump:1.5km L x 1.9km W x 100m HDust will be minimized using waterand binding agents. In later mine lie, trucks willpartially be replaced by conveyanceand stacking systems, which reducenoise and dust.
Explosives Storage
Will be built on the south side o themine property.Trucks will transport and load blastagents or once-daily blasting.Vibration and noise will be reducedusing computer-timed detonation.
Access Roads
Currently accessed via the existingAton Mine haul road.Jacko Lake view will be protected bybuilding a new access road rom themine area to Lac Le Jeune Highway.Concentrate will be transported viaLac Le Jeune Highway to the Porto Vancouver.
Many mines around the world are located near towns and cities, including several successul projects in Canada. In Ontario, Goldcorpoperates its combined underground and open-pit Porcupine JointVenture within the city limits o Timmins; and 12 mines are inoperation today within Sudbury city limits. In Quebec, the DubuissonGold Property – currently under development by Metanor Resources –will be located entirely within the city limits o Val-d’Or.
