John Vassos
Born in Greece in 1898. Moved to NYC in 1924 and set up his own studio and worked on multiple advertising campaigns for brands like Macys. He was know for his unique monochromatic style. It was heavily influenced by Art Deco. He also did work within the theatre scene developing artwork for musicals like Billy Rose in 1926. He then went on to do work on other projects including his work of phobia illustrations.

Aaron Douglas

Other Style Influences

Looking at similar artist I noticed Aaron Douglas. He was an African-American artist in New York around the same time as John Vassos. Even though Aarons work has more colour to it I feel like this has all the same characteristics as Vassos work. Aaron Douglas style was also used within one of the latest Disney films The princes and the Frog. It worked really well and it has that very feel of theatricality that I wanna get within my own project.

Cooking Programme
Looking at some conventional cookery programmes i noticed a few running themes. It was always presented by a constant host. Some did have other guests but you always had a core person presenting the show. Also I noticed how the focus certain shots upon the cooking process with high angle shots and close ups on the dish that was being prepared. I think that I will stick away from the competition cooking as I want to try and aim this project towards a younger market. I plan to create my project for young children to learn the ideas of cooking.
