Smart Metermoratoriam motion
On Jan 24, 2012 I had not only theopportunity to address City Council, onthe Smart Meter motion, but also toview and observe the Council membersin action. It was a regular scheduled councilmeeting. I was most disappointed inNorm Brigden and Clara Norgaard, who stated that as they were new tocouncil they had not been present onprevious presentations by BC Hydroand the group opposed to smart meters, that they were not comfortable in beingasked to vote on a moratorium motionwithout some knowledge on the subject. The notice of motion has been on the books since last October. These councilmembers have had more than adequatetime to gather information on this sub- ject if they were at all interested. Theyknew that the motion was on the agen-da for Jan. 24, 2012. They came to thecouncil meeting ill prepared and want-ing to be spoon fed.If they felt inadequate to make a deci-sion in this regard, they should haveabstained and not voted.Trusting that this performance thatnight isn't a sign of things to come.
Bill Tomchuk, Merritt
[Ed.: Despite being on a list support-ing a moratorium on wireless smartmeters, city council defeated Coun.Mike Goetz’s motion to officiallyrequest one. Mike Goetz and DaveBaker voted in favour of requesting amoratorium from BC Hydro and thegov’t; Harry Kroeker, Clara Norgaard,Norm Brigden & Alastair Murdochvoted against.]
