Dear Friends,The holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, are always a time for us toreflect upon the many blessings in our lives. This year, as we contemplated themany ways the Lord has richly blessed us over this first year in Germany, we wereconsistently reminded of you, our wonderful prayer and financial support team! Weare so grateful to God for you and your faithful support and partnership in thisministry. We want you to know that we pray for you all as well.
“We thank our God every time we remember you. In all our prayers for all of you, we always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, beingconfident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on tocompletion until the day of Christ Jesus!”
(Philippians 1:3-6, NIV, paraphrase) Godis indeed doing a good work, in your lives, in ours, and in this ministry. We couldnot be more humbled to be a part of what He is doing here in Heidelberg!December 16 marks exactly one year since we landed in Germany. Time hascertainly flown by and we are continually growing and transitioning into this new lifeGod has laid out for us. When we first arrived, we were blessed to be able to moveinto a fully furnished (down to the linens and dishes) apartment almost immediately. That apartment was an amazingblessing, and having it right away allowed us to jump straight into ministry with both feet - which was a good thing, since just eight days later we were headed on Winter Blitz (our annual high school winter camp)!Given our previous year’s activities with Burden Bearers International, we didn’t really think that a transatlantic movewould be that great of a shock to the system. We had been told by many wonderful, godly people both in the Youth for Christ office and the Club Beyond office in Colorado to expect to experience “transition” and all that that entails. Wehad kind of shrugged it off and thought it would be just like a BBI trip, only longer. We soon came to realize that livingin an entirely different culture (Germany) while learning to do life with another entirely different culture (the military)would definitely be more of a challenge than we had anticipated. But God is good, and through the many culturaldifferences, both German and military, and sometimes uncomfortable growth and adjustment, we are surrounded by awonderful team of staff, and a supportive chapel family; wecontinue to see Him at work in, and through us. Praise theLord! This year we were also blessed with wonderful visitors whobrought with them glimpses of home at times when weneeded them the most! Our friend Francisco visited us thefirst week of January; Katy’s parents, Dan and Teri, her youngest sister, Kelli, and her Uncle Tom and Aunt Pamvisited over Kelli’s spring break in March; and Dan andRochelle Van Ryn visited in early August. Those visits werefor us tangible reminders of all of our friends and family in thestates who love us, pray for us, support us, and remember us, even when we are an ocean away!
