Description

This thesis attempts to look at the conceptual trajectory of the Phenomenology -- Science of Logic -- Philosophy of Right as a necessary development implicit in Hegel's idea of the 'speculative science of wisdom.' In doing so I look at the specific role that the 'Notion' [Begriff] plays in the movement and transitions that thought takes from indeterminate being to the absolute notion itself, and how this is related to his account of experience and history, in relation to the unity of absolute knowledge and being in the Notion. In this manner I hope to offer a new approach to Hegel's view of philosophy before, during, and after his speculative intervention, which begins with the 'pathway of doubt' (Phenomenology) and 'presuppositionless thinking' (Logic) and ends with the end of philosophy itself: the realization that “what is rational is actual; and what is actual is rational.”
