Yes, were looking for a strong, Biblically-sound, and passionate man (and wife) to take the lead in a muchneeded work in the Lords church. Were calling him Gideon. (Actually, we have found our Western Gideon and his dedicated wife: Justin and Leah Hopkins. They live in Texas and will work primarily with folks on the West of the Mississippi River. Now we need that Eastern Gideon. Do you know his name and contact information?) And were looking for Gideons 300 warriors who will work with him, and with God, to turn things around in the church.

What is the reason for this search?

(the World Evangelism Team) Have you noticed how many of our young people leave the Lord soon after leaving home? The statistics are high. Many factors feed into the problem. One is the small amount of time that many parents spend with their children, because both the father and the mother are working outside the home. Another problem is that too few parents have daily Bible study with their children, with the result that what should be a Christian family is actually a morally good secular family, except that they may attend worship on Sunday. A third problem is that much of the literature used for the past three decades or so, in our Bible classes, has been written by denominational people for interdenomina3

tional use. Obviously, the lessons must be presented as morals, values, principles, and Bible history. Definitive doctrine cannot be covered because that would limit the use of the materials. And the result is that many, of the younger generations, have never been taught clearly about the church, or obedience to the Gospel, or acceptable worship, or our purpose in this world. When they leave it is not that they are turning their backs on the truth; there has been no conviction concerning truth. Admittedly, too many men who fill our pulpits these days have adopted the attitude reported by Dalton Key in a recent article in this magazine. He wrote that some years ago an older preacher had told him that he was not preaching doctrine any more, because it was only divisive. And brother Key commented, After years of this soft preaching, we are experiencing an apostasy. So, if neither many of the parents, nor some preachers, nor much of our class materials are covering definitive doctrine, it is not surprising that there are people who regularly attend our worship services who do not know the difference between the church of Christ and the denominational world. Some now question the necessity of baptism. Some see no problem with adding instruments of music to worship. Some think of the New Testament as a book of ideals rather than laws laid down by God. In this age of Im OK, youre OK and Dont be judgmental, many in the church have accepted tolerance and compromise to the point that the authority of the Scriptures has been rendered meaningless. When the older generations, that were reputed to really know the Scriptures, are gone, what kind of apostasy will take place in the American church? What will be the reality twenty years down the road? How can we bring the church back to the point of real conviction and motivation? How can a large enough percentage of Christians be re-taught, so that things can be turned around? Can it be done through our Gospel papers? No, because too few Christians take those papers and read them. Can it be done through our pulpits? No, because not enough preachers are on fire with the subject; and others are part of the problem. Can we depend on the Christian colleges? No, because a growing number of them are contributing to the apostasy, as happened in 1906. So, how can the greater portion of the church be reached? The one answer seems to be developing literature that will have the opposite effect of the materials now being used: a new line of classroom studies, that will look so good and will be so good and will offer so many options that it will be a welcomed teaching tool throughout the brotherhood. Yes, we must prepare ourselves and our children with knowledge of Gods word, and with the experience of a living relationship with Him, so that if this growing trend of opposition to Christianity continues to escalate, we and our children will be able to stand.

It is our intention to print a catalog, offering all of our materials at the lowest possible cost, and also contact information and coverage of other brotherhood tools, such as DVDs and studies developed by Focus Press, Apologetics Press, World Video Bible School, Christian Courier, House to House, Lads to Leaders, World Bible School, Gospel Broadcasting Network, Search for the Lords Way, DVDs and other materials offered by sound Christians so that it will serve as a resource information center for all that is available for use. The classbooks, with colored illustrations (no cartoon art work), can be printed in China for about 1/4 what it would cost to print them here. What the nation of China can do to help the church will be worth far more to us than our little amount of money will be worth to their economy, so we should take advantage of whatever can be done there. In addition, a number of Christians currently work in China, and through them we should be able to locate the best factories for econominal development of the visuals and crafts that will be needed. CDs and DVDs can also be produced very economically, enabling us to use these tools in a great way. What an age we live in! God has supplied every needed tool to enable His people to fully evangelize the world in our generation. What a difference that will make! We must not be lulled by doing good busy work, such as good gestures to nursing home folks, hospitals, etc., using all of our time getting ready to teach, but never teaching. Launch into really becoming involved with teaching and with guiding people to find Bible answers to their needs. A confronting, reproducing Christianity is the only kind that lives and brings happiness. We must dig ourselves up out of this deadly rut of form and complacency. Christianity was never intended to be the religion for lazy or half-converted people. If those things are the measure of our commitment to God, we are in the wrong place. Heaven is described as a place of rest from our labors. That doesnt mean our never-ceasing effort to acquire more of this worlds goods. The inference is that only those who have labors to rest from will go there.

1. Must be strongly Bible-based, turning neither to the right nor to the left, realizing the world-wide scope of influence through the literature and, therefore, the grave responsibility of presenting all the truth and only the truth. 2. Meet together, as needed, with other elders and with those involved in the development of the literature, for discussion/evaluation sessions. 3. The elders (along with selected advisors who are deeply committed to truth) and the publisher will be responsible for reading the materials and approving the contents or making suggestions of needed changes. 4. Whenever possible, every facet of the writing, art work, typesetting, lay-out, proof reading, etc., to be done voluntarily so that the money from sales can go back into the printing. 5. It is hoped that, from the sponsors of the program, there would be enough funds to provide the salary for the point person who would present the program to churches, to enlist volunteers and to raise funds for the actual printing. 6. Continuing to work together, the elders and publisher along with missionaries and/ or local leadership in congregations in foreign countries will decide what to print, where and when, for overseas use. Wherever possible, distributors of (for instance, Hindi) literature (in India) should charge a small price per book in order to help teach local churches responsibility over money and also to teach them to bear whatever part of the load they are able.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITERS:

In many of the earlier generations there were no classes for children. Then carne the age of little cards and "Jewel" sheets. These (in a less complex society) taught Bible lessons for Bible knowledge. Application was a more or less natural result. Now we have entertainment presented in cartoon format (which automatically creates an entirely erroneous concept of God and spiritual things in the minds of students), the Bible as history, social and moral applications, and strong doses of Gods love and grace. Lessons I have reviewed are of two types: A. Those designed to cover the Bible, primarily from an historical standpoint, and to give the student well-rounded knowledge of God's word. B. Those that look at today's world with its problems and seek to make moral and social application. Have we ever had the Bible message presented in planned class studies in its fullness, covering doctrine, the spirit of Christianity, with training in response and involvement? There is a great deal of difference between learning religious words and learning how to do those things. 1. The lessons we plan will be neither "conservative" nor "liberal" nor "legalistic" but, rather, Biblical. They must be balanced, not a reaction to anything. If the Bible doesn't provide the authority for a belief or practice, we won't teach it. If it is a Biblical doctrine, we have the obligation to incorporate it into the spectrum. But the doctrine must be taught with understanding and explanation of why God asks this and what He is accomplishing by it. With the moral and spiritual warfare Satan is waging against us, we can't hope to win unless we are willing to take a strong, decisive stand for the truth. In todays secular schools, children as young as kindergarten age are being taught that the homosexual lifestyle is all right. Those religious groups that hold on to their people begin at the earliest ages teaching strongly definitive doctrine, thoroughly indoctrinating those young minds. We must be as wise as they; we must instill in our children the directives of Gods word from the earliest ages, before they are old enough to have to make decisions about a lifestyle or a marriage mate or parenting. If we wait until they are faced with those forks in the road, we will lose because their peers and the world will have already turned them to their way of thinking. Permeating the materials must be, not only definitive doctrinal truths, but also the moral and social applications that are the natural result of godliness. We also need to teach over-views of the Bible in chronological lessons. 2. While writing, it would be helpful if the authors could be teaching that age group if possible, in order to check the effectiveness and age-orientation of the material. 3. Keep continually in mind that these threads of truth and responses to truth are to be woven throughout:

Threads of Truth that must permeate the lessons

God's eternal purposes. His interaction with man. Stress the spiritual relationship with God, not just a form or a Sunday exercise with the rest of life being as secular as the lives of those around us who are not Christians. Stress how God has dealt with man (through miracles, providence; how prayers were prayed; how prayers are answered). Be sure that providence is fully explained and understood, so that Gods work in this present time is not doubted. Show Christ as our Saviour, our Lord, our Brother; salvation is not the result of a person's goodness or sacrifices but because the Christian has obediently washed himself in the Blood of Christ. Deal with the reality of God's purposes through us; therefore our reason for being in the world. Teach the oneness of God's family and the fact that the relationship is a personal one, not dependent on any other person's faithfulness. Explore and emphasize personal commitment and involvement. Stress the necessity of evangelism and outreach by teaching and practicing .... Look for opportunities to make these emphases in every Bible story, thereby creating a new perspective for viewing the familiar scriptures. P Permeate all of the lessons with our five Ps: Purity of life Purpose in this world Prayer Providence Passion for God 4. Each lesson has a definite purpose, a named goal in teaching. Keep always in mind the Gospel of Christ, its practice, and its propagation throughout the world in this generation. From the first level to the last level, instill the goal of being the first generation since the first century to evangelize the world, beginning with feeling responsible for the people in ones own community and family. 5. In developing the lessons and the activities, we want to create student involvement whenever that is possible and beneficial in getting across the points. So, even though the student lesson book will be written out as a story without action (except for what is suggested in the side bars), the teachers manual needs to include directions for injecting involvement 3-D, hands on types of things. For instance in my little class, studying about the subject of God, I brought a statue of an idol and also some wood and stone, to show what such images are made of. We read from Isaiah 40:18-20, and talked about making gods, and the children had fresh flowers and food to show what worshippers offer, so that they could clearly see the foolishness of making sacri16

fices to something that is lifeless and helpless. Then the lesson moved on to establish the various attributes of God and how he has made us like Himself. 6. Also, just as the Bible incorporates many sub-topics while discussing the primary topic, these are some points that we need to bring out and emphasize and re-emphasize wherever they can be brought up for reinforcement: Work specific projects and goals into the lessons, as things the students should be doing. Draw attention to whether God was working in the particular situation through miracles, providence, or the law of nature. Many even adults mistakenly think that everything God does would be in the category of miraculous, but most of His work throughout time has been through providential overruling, using anything and everything as His tools. Teach that responsibility equals maturity, and maturity equals responsibility. Teach students to prioritize the elements in their life and their use of time. Emphasize that creation, not evolution, was Gods method of bringing all things into existence; that the ideas of ape and cave man are also a part of the evolutionary scenario and they contradict the Scriptures. Early men were intelligent and could do great things. Then, as now, some lived in tents and caves, as well as other types of dwellings, but there were cities and highly developed civilizations, too. Genesis 4 shows that Adams grandson built a city. As evidenced by the pyramids and other astounding constructions, people of the past could do things that absolutely could not be reproduced today, with all of our technology and equipment. Teach the value of the home; the devastating results of divorce, and of marriage to unbelievers (use Bible examples from the Old Testament); stress Gods reasons for strictness about marriage: to protect the home and the nation from just the sort of mess we have now. Show how juvenile crises have grown, with the crime rate, and all other social ills and crimes, as divorce has grown. As painful as some of these lessons will be, the problems will never be corrected unless Christians and Christian teachers have the strength to teach what God says about the sanctity of marriage. Refute the current Im OK, youre OK philosophy, which allows acceptance of alternative lifestyles, and a non-judgmental attitude toward all of the worlds corruptions and evils. If Gods word condemns a certain behavior, Christians cannot compromise. Keep Gods over-all purpose (reconciling man to Himself) in mind. Establish: How does this lesson relate to His purpose? How does it apply to me? How do I fit into His purpose? These questions should be imbedded in the students mind. A strong line of demarcation needs to be drawn between Bible and tradi17

tion, so that students can hold to the Truth while having a flexible attitude about the traditions that often can and should be improved. For instance, people come forward for baptism or to confess sins, at the end of the lesson. How good it would be if before the Lords Supper a time of silent introspection could be allowed, and opportunity be given for individuals to ask forgiveness from each other or to ask for prayers for strength or for dealing with some problem. But students need to be firmly grounded in the fact that traditions will change with the times and the culture and the country in which the Christian lives. But SCRIPTURE does not change and we have no authorization to set aside what God has said by opinion or tradition. Except in verses where another translation is more accurate, for the sake of consistency and greater ease in reading, we want to use the New King James Version of the Scriptures throughout the series.

What Do We Propose?
The only way we are convinced that the slide into apostasy in the Lords church in America can be halted is through graded literature. Why? Because (1) the apostasy is developing as a result of a lack of sound biblical knowledge, and (2) the ONE way that a large portion of the church can be effectively reached and taught is through the literature being used in Bible classes. THERE IS NOT ANY OTHER SINGLE MEANS FOR HAVING LONG-TERM TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES IN A LARGE ENOUGH PERCENTAGE OF THE CONGREGATIONS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. And piece-meal materials are not sufficient to compete with, and displace, the slick, well-developed inter-denominationally produced packets that are used by the greater percentage of the congregations. It is true that numerous large churches among us have developed their own materials, but most congregations of the Lords church are not large enough to do this. And most do not have the multiplicity of teachers with the time and talents to fill in the visuals and activities that are lacking in the well-intentioned efforts of single individuals who have seen the great need for better literature and have striven valiantly to fill the void. What the Lords people desperately need is a full line of curriculum, from cradle through high school through college and adult materials, that will supply all that even a young, inexperienced, time-starved teacher will need to do his/her job well. What would that include? We propose:

For Sunday Morning classes for Children

A full-color, perfect-bound lesson book, appropriate to the age level, with the lesson beginning in the childs world of problems, needs, and experiences, and then going to Gods Book for answers and guidance. This approach will give relevance to the Bible as the answers to all of lifes direction, rather than merely being a history book. The book will include quizzes and activities. At the end of the quarter, each child will have a beautiful book to take home and add to his growing library of Bible Story Books, which his parents can use for reinforcement at home. Teachers manuals that will help to educate the teacher on the fundamental truths, as well as to emphasize the spiritual lessons to be stressed. A full guide for songs, drills, lesson, and make-up of the class. Activity packets (individual and teachers packets) for in-class reinforcement of the lesson; visuals. Appropriate songs (not just rah-rah catchy junk, but songs that teach), memory and drill work will be stressed in each class. There will be wall displays for the lessons, as well as individual activities.

Additional Tools
Song books and CDs Memory verse illustrated flash cards

Take-home application/parent reinforcement sheet (Lifelines), so that the parent will be aware of what the child was learning. An achievement book (The Book of Bible Knowledge) for each child, showing what should have been learned each quarter. The pages will have designated places for stickers that will be positioned as the child learns the memory work, verse, or whatever the lesson and the quarter require. Each quarter will claim six or eight pages in the book, and the book will be taken home and signed by the parents at the end of the quarter. A book may be set up for two to three years, moving with the child to each promotion. These may be used by the teachers for drilling the classes on facts, memory work they should know. The aim is to be sure that, when the child has graduated from high school, he has been thoroughly taught the essential facts, doctrines, verses in the achievement books. When each book is filled, it may be added to the library at home, as a further reinforcement tool for the parents. An ideas and patterns book for teachers to develop additional visuals of their own, if they so desire. Many wonderful visuals and 3-D materials will be developed and offered to bring the lessons to life: character dolls for sand boxes; a Noahs ark with animals to scale; costumes for role-playing various Bible lessons the possibilities are endless! DVDs and books giving directions for decorating rooms as Mission Learning Centers, and for making Bible Times Rooms. Also, lesson books for these centers, as teacher guidance. 19

 DVDs, CDs, and Power Points for the scheduled lessons (if teachers choose to use these tools instead of the printed versions), plus additional choices, including such Power Points as The History of Christianity, World Religions, Lands and Peoples of the Bible, Islam History and Doctrine, Walking with Jesus and the Apostles, etc., etc.

Wednesday Classes
Two types of materials should be developed for Wednesday classes. The first is a chronological time line to be displayed on the wall of the classroom. Figures illustrating various lessons will be supplied, to be attached to the time-line scroll. Along with teaching the full scope of the Scriptures would be notations of major events taking place in the world at the same time, so that the students will grow in the awareness that the events of the Bible took place in the real world, not in a vacuum or as a fairy tale. The suggestion is made that three weeks of each quarter be spent on the time line, then one week be devoted to the second type of lessons: Drills, memory work, and various types of activities, and assignments. Teachers manuals and work/activity materials will be developed and provided for these classes.

Saturday Activities
Until our young people learn to put working Christianity to effective use in their lives, they face the danger that they may learn only a form of godliness. This very weakness in the current situation that we teach our children but too often we are failing to train them in anything more than the fun and games activities is responsible in great part for the loss of upwards of 70% of the younger generation as they grow to adulthood. Saturday Achievement Programs, for all appropriate ages, with accompanying Boy Scout type achievement books, will be designed to involve all age levels in the work they are capable of doing children, young people, and adults.

VBS Materials
Motivational VBS programs will be developed. These will be offered in the catalog on an on-going basis, so that even though new materials will be offered each year, choice can also be made among previous materials, thus continually increasing the available options.

Video Games
We want to have video games developed, to add to the memory work tools, and to increase interest in Bible lessons and application.

DVDs of Classes
As the materials are developed and used, we want to make DVDs of the lessons being taught. These can be made available to small churches, to supplement their need for capable teachers. They will also be available on the Into Gods World web site, so that churches around the world can use them. 20

Junior High and High School Studies

Lesson books, appropriate for the age level, will be developed not only for each quarter, but an on-going writing and printing of alternate selections will be added, so that teachers will be able to choose the particular lessons needed for their students. In addition to the classbooks, which will be designed to become reference and home-study materials, in the building of a personal library, there will continue to be the chronological time-line studies, drill and memory work, the Book of Knowledge to help the student maintain a record of the truths he is responsible for learning, and the planned outreach activities.

Adult Studies
There will also be a planned curriculum for adult classes, with books that will continually add to the personal library at home. As with the teen materials, additional topics will be developed for alternate choices. There will continue to be the chronological time-line studies, drill and memory work, and dare we do it even for adults? the Book of Knowledge to help the student maintain a record of the truths he is responsible for learning, and the planned outreach activities. In addition to the Bible time lines, we propose developing maps and charts to show the work of the early church in evangelizing the world; the apostasy of the church in the early centuries and the subsequent development of Catholicism and denominations. We also want to offer CDs of Power Point presentations of (1) World Religions; (2) the History of Christianity; (3) Lands and People of the Bible; (4) The History and doctrine of Islam; (5) Walking in the Steps of Jesus and the Apostles -these with pictures and narration by Glover Shipp; and others by other brethren.

Alternate Choices
Motivational seminars, for outreach and church growth, are planned. They will feature several dedicated speakers for Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday lessons, followed by six months of further teaching and involvement training. Designed for Wednesday teen/adult classes, the program will consist of two parts: a highly motivational and educational DVD, concerning the necessity for individual Christians to be involved in outreach, and training in how to successfully approach nonChristians and to teach and convert them. There will be a lesson book, reinforcing the DVD messages and requiring involvement in the process of setting up classes with others, and actually teaching non-Christians as a part of the work assignments. Some of the class studies will involve instructions on how to open the subject of having a home study, how to teach; gaining a working knowledge of denominational doctrines, etc. all designed to equip the student to go out and evangelize.

Adult Class Materials

Writers should include these thoughts in their materials: What is the purpose of a club if it does nothing but meet? Could it retain members? If we don't have a conscience about the church, how long will we stay? Baptists plan to start new "Sunday Schools". They plan to grow ("Southern Baptists' efforts to start 2000 new Sunday Schools during the 1989-1990 church year were part of the bold new Sunday School Advance. If Southern Baptists were to start no new churches for 20 years, projections show the growth rate of the denomination would be cut in half."). How many new congregations do members of the Lord's church plan to start this year? We must remember that good works that are not planned seldom "just happen". A Taiwanese boy living in the States was talking to me about the personal work regularly done in "his" church back home. "But," he said, "we don't do that in this church of Christ." He couldn't understand how the church could not be doing that work if it is really right.

SUGGESTION:
Why not have Sunday evening as a time for setting up regular teaching services in another area of town or a nearby city a beginning effort for a new congregation for those members of the congregation who can engage in this work? We must not be lulled by doing "good" "busy work", such as good gestures to nursing home folks, hospitals, etc., using all of our time getting ready to teach, but never teaching. Launch into really becoming involved with teaching and with guiding people to find Bible answers to their needs. A confronting, reproducing Christianity is the only kind that lives and brings happiness. We must dig ourselves up out of this deadly rut of form and complacency. Christianity was never intended to be the religion for lazy or half-converted people. If those things are the measure of our commitment to God, we are in the wrong place. Heaven is described as a place of rest from our labors. That doesn't mean our never-ceasing effort to acquire more of this world's goods. The inference is that only those who have labors to rest from will go there. A. B. C. Use appropriate class books already in print. Use motivational and study books as written and printed. It is our intention to print a catalog, offering all of our materials at the lowest possible cost, and also contact information and coverage of other brotherhood tools, such as DVDs and studies developed by Focus Press, Apologetics Press, World Video Bible School, Christian Courier, House to House, Lads to Leaders, World Bible School, Gospel Broadcasting Network, Search for the Lords Way, DVDs and other materials offered by sound Christians so that it will serve as a resource information center for all that is available for use. The classbooks, with colored illustrations (no cartoon art work), can be printed in China for about 1/4 what it would cost to print them here. What they can do to help the church will be worth far more to us than our little amount of money will be worth to their economy, so we should take advantage of whatever can be done there. In addition, a number of Christians currently work in China, and through them we should be able to locate the best factories for econominal development of the visuals and crafts that will be needed. CDs and DVDs can also be produced very economically, enabling us to use these tools in a great way. What an age we live in! God has supplied every needed tool to enable His people to fully evangelize the world in our generation. What a difference that will make! 23

Part Two
Please go through these subjects, add to them as you see the need, make any suggestions you like about unique approaches for presenting these truths or about points that you feel must be covered, give different perspectives on the subject, etc. The notes, as we have typed them, are certainly not complete. Much more time should be spent studying the New Testament, especially from seventh grade, up, than studying the Old Testament. Instead of going first to a Bible story, which may create an impression that this is a type of history lesson, the focus should be first on the problems, thinking, and world that that particular age is facing, and then go to the Bible for the guidance and answers. In this way, the permeating point is made that Gods word supplies our directions for life, that it is far more than simply a history of Biblical events and characters. Also, in order to ensure that there are no holes in the entire message of the classes, and to prevent unnecessary redundancy, we intend to be sure that the quartersubject is right for the age for which it is being written; the 13 lessons will be titled, and full outlines will be developed, showing where the permeating points need to be included. This is a major responsibility of the volunteers in the planning group. These things must be done before the writing can begin. The following concepts (and in my lack of time to write all the points, this is not complete; before assignments are made, those participating in the planning sessions will add to these pages) should be worked into every possible lesson:

AS A HUMAN: * You were made with the capability of returning love to God. * You are the single thing of creation with the power of choice. * You affect the very God of heaven by your choices. AS A CHILD IN A CHRISTIAN HOME OR A YOUNG CHRISTIAN: * You are of the very small percentage of the earths 6.3 billion that has a Fatherchild relationship with God. * You have access to His guidelines to steer you safely through this alien world. Pay attention to Him because He loves you. * You have been entrusted with the completion of the work He has been doing through the ages, culminating in the gift of His Son. Your work is to complete what He has been doing by sharing it with others. This is your reason for being left to live in an alien and dangerous environment: to represent God to those around you, to the world. * You will have Gods continual care as you live faithfully in this world. * You are Gods salt, His preserving agent in the world. The world in Noahs day, Sodom and Gomorrah are examples of what happens when the righteous are no longer large enough or strong enough to influence for good. Then the world will be destroyed. * Your attitudes will determine your actions; you are what you ingest, whether spiritually fed or starved; your attitudes will hinder or aid your growth. * Use self and possessions for God. Realize that you and all that you have are His, in reality. * Be courageous about teaching Jesus; realize that the few, only, will find the way; that many will not want to hear and will not like you because you want to share; Jesus was even crucified because people of His day did not want to hear His message. * Use your home for hospitality. Make non-Christians aware of what Christianity is all about by making your home a warm and open example. Like a Mission Impossible script, the work you are assigned is dangerous and diffi* cult, against the deadliest of the Underworlds representation yet, victory is yours and you certainly will come out alive if you hold on to God. Unlike a Mission Impossible script, you are never on your own. God overrules, Jesus promised, I will be with you always, and Gods Holy Spirit lives within you to fortify and help you to meet the challenges. * We must approach life in Christ with 100% commitment, with passion, with a realization of our purpose in living in this alien world -- to bring the message of salvation to others, and to live the light of Christ in a dark world.

7. VALUES
Are things right or wrong because someone has said so, or because they are inherently truth and error? Does doing the wrong result in natural disastrous consequences? If so, it is inherently wrong, not just a law that has been arbitrarily made. Give examples. Instruct fully about humanism so that the child can recognize it as it is woven subtly into textbooks, TV, songs, movies, novels, etc. Show that it is not the Judeo-Christian value system we follow but the rules given from the mind of God. If individuals and the world follow these, they will live and prosper; if individuals and the world discard these, they will fall into calamity and destruction. Much of America is now living by the rules of humanism; the results are being reported each night on the news. Only Gods teachings, aggressively used in combating the wrong in those devilish corruptions can change things; this trust is left in the hands of His children. Study the gamut of moral rights and wrongs, weighing each one as previously stated. See why they are so, and the effects of following truth / error. Study Gods methods of individual discipline. Study also the instructions given the church to discipline the fallen. Review 1 Corinthians; of what sins were they guilty? For which sins did Paul instruct withdrawal of fellowship? For all? If we really love brethren, we wont politely ignore their wrongs that need to be corrected. Study Gods rules (go the second mile; he who loses his life shall find it; do good for evil; better to give than to receive; love enemies; be forgiving; etc.); these are the only rules that really work in this world; they are even good business rules.

8. PURPOSE IN LIFE
Why are we here? What is important enough to use up ones life doing it? What will there be to show as accomplished at the end of life? Consider personal talents and needs in the local church work. Make a list of what you can do now and what you want to learn to do. Daily devotions, prayer and the power of fasting. Teach individual responsibility, that a child must learn to stand alone for his convictions when necessary. Each person is responsible to God; each Christian has the precious trust of the Gospel placed in his hands.

9. GODS WORD
Establish clearly that it is GODS word; dont fall into the trap that the writers wrote as they did because of their thinking or their surrounding circumstances. God is the real author of the word. Teach internal evidences of His authorship. Teach also that translations are only that, so our faith in the word itself should not rest on the infallibility of particular wording of particular translations. Warn about the many religious theologians who do not believe in the inspiration of the scriptures (and who believe most of it is just ethnic writings and local myths), yet they are writing about Gods word as though they are authorities. They are subtle poison to faith. Make an archaeological study to show that the historical remains in the world support the Biblical record. Make a brief study of true science, as it supports the Biblical record. Study the oneness of the message, though penned by many men over many years; compare this with the idea of collecting the secular writings of 40 men over 1500 years how impossible to have one coherent message under such circumstances! Teach the completeness of the word as Gods revelation. It meets the needs of every person in every age in every place; no message from the mind of man could do this. Show why God doesnt give 1-2-3 answers; His word is designed so that it will provoke study by those who hunger for truth; obscure truths create greater depths of understanding as the student searches; concepts of truth scattered throughout the Book protect those truths from being lost through errant translation. Instill the knowledge that getting away from a regular feeding on His Word results in many of our off-balances. That Word is emotional and spiritual balm in any crisis. Children and Christians need this truth ingrained in their consciousness. Teach HOW to study. Thoroughly acquaint the students with the study tools needed.

10. PRIORITIES
How to spend life? as a doctor, a lawyer, to make money, to be successful? as a minister, missionary? If young men worked as hard at learning to preach as to become other professionalists, they would excel. Is money important? physical service? spiritual service? As noble as benevolent work is (and it is one of the fruits of Christianity), it is not the focal point of the Lords work. We could drain the church dry, financially and of talents, and would not have touched the worlds physical needs. But even if those needs could be met, if spiritual needs are not covered, what has really been done? We need to teach our children to see the soul first, and that God will help with the physical needs when the soul is right. Matthew 6:33 promises to do what we cant do. When souls belong to God, His rules of life work well, inherently; and then He can bless His children directly. So our children need to see the vital importance of using their lives to teach, in order to alleviate the worlds problems. Need to distinguish (in use of time) between busy work and necessary work. An army must sluff off extras; practice moderation, not being caught up too much in this worlds goods and values; must be willing to forego some interests and habits because there isnt enough time in a life to do all God needs us to do and all the little extras we might get interested in doing. We are not on vacation and at our leisure in this world. We are in a state of warfare. Let I Am a Hard-fighting Soldier be our theme song!

11. GIVING
Build a whole body of scriptures showing how God gives to us, pressed down and running over; that he allows the natural blessings to fall on the worthy and the unworthy; that He promises His children all sufficiency always in all things to every good work... Christians are to give as prospered, of money (10% or more; exceed the righteousness of Jews). At each level, teach children to give of their allowance to God; to put aside extra each Lords day (encourage amount according to age and what they have to do with) for mission work. Of time (10% if all gave this much, how much more would be done!) Of talents. We develop more by using what we have. Teach students to put God first, self afterwards. Train them in how to make sacrifices; by protecting our children from this, we deny them the strongest spiritual growth. Through proper teaching, help them to learn the satisfaction that comes through sacrificing; to choose not to buy something for self, in order to give the money for Gods work, or for someone who is in need. We dont need all the fads the world offers. Teach the choice of not devoting most of spare time to personal activities and to entertainment, but to Gods work. Teach stewardship of money and property after our deaths; too much of Gods money in the hands of Christians is turned over to the devil at their deaths. This is wrong. Set goals for our age and means: *What we can give and do as youths. *...in middle age. *...in retirement years. Plan our lives toward these things. Projects for classes: Choose class projects to support, work for, and learn about. $1.00 extra each week (for older classes; proportionately less for younger ones) for evangelism. Collect family change in a can for a chosen project. Class may plan a day of yard work or other paying jobs and then give the earnings for the special projects they support.

12. THREAD OF CONSCIOUSNESS OF MISSIONS AND OF BEING SEEDS WOVEN THROUGHOUT

The work of every person who knows God is to teach that knowledge to others; teach them His love and how to be saved so that they can look toward heaven. These lessons are vital. Gods work from the beginning of time has been to accomplish this. He placed this trust in our hands; (through Israel, Jesus came in the flesh; through us, Jesus must go to the whole world). Except through us, it cannot be done.

13. TEACH CHILDREN TO LOOK UP TO LEADERS IN THE CHURCH AS HEROES

Christian parents. Godly elders. Preachers. Missionaries. Teachers. Teach the attitudes and qualities these people must have, so that the children can be molded in these areas, with ideals to achieve. Encourage strongly the idea of dedicating ones life in service as preachers, Bible class teachers, missionaries, elders and wives with vision to lead the church. No matter how one earns his living, these priorities of service should be trained into the thinking.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTIVITY SET

Equivalent of 13 quarters of work per year, one Wednesday night each month; look always for ways to tie in the concepts learned in Sunday morning classes with the drill and activity work on Wednesday nights.

* Drills on Bible questions. (Compilations of questions on flash cards) * Memory work. (Make compilation of verses on flash cards; have levels of achievement and awards similar to badge program in Scouts.) * Competitions in and between classes. * Write scripts and act out Bible stories; prepare costumes and sets with parents help. This gets parents involved and interested in what the children are learning. * Use sandbox, character dolls, etc. to make stories come to life. * Serious song practice, practice in leading; strive for quality through practice, as choral groups would do. Be sure that songs are scriptural, respectful, and that they have purpose. If a songs primary purpose is to entertain, with a wild and silly hoopla, it is out of place. Children need to be trained that songs are a part of worship and that they must teach, train, and admonish in a spiritual way; must not enter Gods presence with run-away silliness. * Older children practice teaching in other classes. Teenagers should be used as coteachers on a regular basis, so that they will naturally grow into this field of service. * Young men practice the preparation and delivery of lessons. * Discussions between Christian and members of various denominational groups, learning how to handle truth in teaching, how to be loving and tactful, wise, yet how to uphold the truth. Learn not to answer with what I believe or what we teach but with what the Bible teaches. * Make scrapbooks of selected countries, with materials from newspapers and gospel papers, reports from the field. * Make scrapbooks dealing with selected topics of current concern: alcoholism, crime, broken homes, immorality, abortion, drugs, etc.

sufficient review of previous material. * Each class, each quarter, builds its own time-activity mural for its room. The lessons will be designed to cover the Bible in two or three years.The visuals packet for this series would include an over-all full-color mural, with graphics to be added to the time-line as the lessons progress. * Teachers should strive to teach in such a way that Biblical places and people will seem real. Extra background reading material could be some of the new novels dealing with Bible characters. These, as a rule, stay close to the word in the main story line, filling in with historical and cultural background and with human nature. * Show on the map that Biblical places still exist; that they are not mythical. Compare locations on old and new maps. * While studying time-chart of Bible, tie in the history of the surrounding world at that time. (Time-Lifes TIMEFRAME series would be helpful in supplying much of this information.) Show day-to-day life around Gods people; make apparent the differences between Gods ways and the heathen ways, so the children will grow up with the concept that we cannot be conformists. * After the story from the scriptures, enlarged with the historical setting, have question sheet that draws out the personal lesson from the story: What were the people doing? Was it good? Why was it good? Bad? How did God interact with them? Did He work through miracles or through providence? Was He reaching out to others through His people? etc. * Help the children to learn a living, working relationship with God, and an understanding of the behavior to expect from God in response to given behavior and situations on the part of His people and other people. * When time allows, have interesting developmental projects for the class, but dont let doing overwhelm learning. For older students and adult classes, the Bible Geography study book by Louis Rushmore may be substituted for the time line.

Projects for classes:

Make a large ark of popsicle sticks and hot glue; have little ones to bring pairs of animals for the ark, and food, grain. Cover with pitch (black paint). Make mud bricks with straw like Israel did in Egypt; build a village and wall. Re-enact the Jewish Passover in order to better understand the memorial supper of Christ which it foreshadowed. Learn details in Old Testament and in Jewish Mishnah. Have field trips to look for materials for projects. Save building projects to use as teaching materials for other classes.

Before children are promoted to the next class, there should be a Parents Night when students show what they have learned during the year.

* Look seriously at local community needs (Homeless, foster children, foreign students needing adoptive families while they are in the US; people with drug, alcohol, emotional problems, etc.) and decide what you can do to be the hands of Christ to those who need Him. Learn that Christianity is not a free trip to heaven but is a life of service. We must reach out to the undesirable if they are ever to become desirable. Only the truth can effect that change in their lives. The longer we go along, living only for ourselves, the worse the world will grow and the harder will be our job of cleaning up the mess. The Lord moved out of His way for us; we must learn to move out of our way for others. * Adopt a person who needs a Christian father, mother, friend, and fill that need. Make the difference in that life. * Men and women can train young boys and girls and take them along to help the sick, elderly, or single mothers in this way: -oil squeaky doors. -repair leaky faucets. -repair leaky toilet flushes -check cars for water, oil, anti-freeze; clean the car, wash. -run errands. -wash windows. -change light bulbs and clean light fixtures (older people cant climb well) -sweep and mop floors. * Read to the elderly. Supply CDs and DVDs of Bible lessons and singing for them. * Develop an out of this world VBS each year, to draw children from all over town. * Prepare class props and sets that are beyond the capabilities of children and students. * Make costumes for characterizations. * Make character dolls for illustrating Bible lessons. * Go to mission or weak points nearby to help with VBS. * Help to establish the church in a nearby town or area where it is needed; or help provide leadership for small nearby congregation that needs help.

14. PURITY OF LIFE AND CHARACTER

Identify sin as sin and show its inherent consequences, both the natural results of sin and Gods punishment of sin. Show that Gods rules are not dos to test our obedience and donts to deny us or to see if we are worthy of heaven; they are the Fathers loving guidelines to steer us safely through an alien world. Teach thankfulness for, and pride in, the Biblical standard for Christians, not a martyr complex because children have to miss so many of the activities their friends enjoy. Teach that there are universal and eternal moral rights and wrongs; that these are not just the Christian training of the conscience; inherent within them are natural blessings and punishments. Gods laws work! Nothing else does!

15. MARRIAGE ACCORDING TO GODS LAW

Look for qualities in mate. Dont think one must marry whoever one falls in love with. If one fell in love with a drunkard or a murderer, judgment would usually prevent the marriage. Christians must exercise judgment in choosing the mate that will help to determine ones own and childrens and grandchildrens eternal direction. Pray for the mate from early years. The destruction of the home is affecting more areas of life in this country than any other single thing; as the home goes, so seems to go the world; it is imperative that this disastrous destruction of the family system be stopped. Teach Biblical laws regarding marriage; that the stern restrictions are designed, not to cause problems but to prevent the terrible things that come into families through divorce, and the multiple disasters that shred a nation in the wake of accepting divorce. Americas mess, case in point. Show the utter sanctity of marriage; the church is called Christs bride; Israel was married to God; the breaking up of that closest and most intimate relationship has always been abhorred by God. Those who would say that people outside of Christ are not bound by Gods laws on marriage or on anything else would be actually teaching that the only sinners are in the church; sin is the transgression of the law to which we are answerable. If alien sinners can have past marriages wiped away by baptism, the erring Christian receives equal cleansing through confession and prayer; therefore, this thinking would completely erase a law on marriage or a consequence of divorce and adultery. God knew it would be better to make the law strict and harsh, thereby preserving the majority of homes and the whole of mankind, than to have everything destroyed by the effects of broken homes. When people in general leave this conscience toward marriage, ruin is the natural result. Humanism is rapidly re-writing all moral laws in America and much of the Western world; homosexuality is being promoted as an alternative life-style; even pedophilia is being touted by some as a healthy experience for young people; live-in situations, trials to see if the couple actually wants to be married, are becoming the norm. No longer is it a shame for people to engage in premarital sex, or to have children outside of marriage, or to have an abortion. All of these situations, that were once looked on with great shame, are now accepted and even condoned by many. Gods word has not changed. He forbade these things because they are destructive to relationships in this world and destructive to the soul in the world to come. Teach the roles of men and women, in the home and in the church; why there is subjection and yet no inferiority; show why and how Gods system works best for men, their wives, and their children.

16. WORSHIP
Acceptable attitude toward worship. Children should be taught from an early age to look around and see that people are worshipping God. Teach Johns vision of the heavenly scene, and that we become a part of that spiritual scene when we worship; therefore they must be still and quiet, not distract; must participate. Teach the need for dressing with respect for God and for being in His presence. Sing with meaning and love, not mumbling; not turning pages, or with the mind on other things (vain worship). Why not use instrumental music? teach the attitude of worshipping as God asks, not as we might think to be all right; why God wants the instrument of His creation to worship Him instead of something we have made; that every act of worship is designed to be able to do anywhere and by all; If the instrument was required, in some cases it would be impossible to worship acceptably because not in every situation does a group have access to an instrument; and not all can play. Teach that we are singing praises; joy and rejoicing in the Lord. Study meanings of words and Biblical origins of songs. Check whether hymns are scriptural. Need training in singing for whole congregation so that the worship can be done well and whole-heartedly. Use tapes in classes on occasions to learn new songs. Teach sinfulness of not participating in any part of worship the joy of putting ones whole heart and spirit into true worship. Teach thoroughly about public and private prayer; according to Gods will; in Jesus name. Place true emphasis on examining oneself and on meditating on the Lords Supper. Show necessity of studying Gods word, not the wisdom and philosophies of men. Teach that giving is a part of worship, also under Gods regulation; that if we dont give scripturally, we havent worshipped. Teach not to be time-conscious but to concentrate instead on the purpose of the gathering; except in cases of real emergency or necessity, one should never leave the worship periods early; this shows utter disrespect for the presence of God.

17. GODS SEEDS

Christians are the seeds of the kingdom. (Matt. 13:38) God would not sow in clumps if left up to Him. We need to place our lives in His hands and ask Him to plant us where He wants us. Project: Plant seeds in two garden rows or two pots. In one, space them out as they should be. In the other one, clump them all together. Let the children watch their growth. Teach the lesson that Christians grow better if they have some space for development. This also enables them to reach out to more people with the Gospel. Look for opportunities to plant new congregations in new neighborhoods and cities and countries.

18. TEACH HOW PRAYER AND PROVIDENCE WORK IN OUR LIVES TODAY
Show the difference between miracles and providence. When were miracles used? (for the purpose of introducing, with undeniable signs of Gods involvement, a new spokesman or a new message) What is providence? (Gods use of anything and anybody, to bring about what He wants done. Even though the event would result in totally unexpected turns in history, He didnt set aside the law of nature (a miracle) to accomplish that purpose. A case in point was His use of the Assyrians to punish Israel (Isaiah 10:5-11). Show why providence is the better tool and has always been used above miracles; that God has not placed Himself or His people at a disadvantage by not using miracles in this age. Open doors and closed doors one effective way that God directs us. The message of The Stage Is Set. Gods use of America and of the church in this country, to bring the Gospel to the world: In this nation is (1) The large nucleus of Christians (2) We have the money, accepted all over the world, to underwrite the costs of evangelism. (3) We speak English, the international language. (4) We have the freedom to travel. Teach how to pray; what to ask for; how to see answers. Purpose: praise, thanks, help. Meaning of asking in Jesus name; why. Personal and public prayers. Exercise: Students and teacher make prayer lists; pray for the specific things in class; give students a copy of list to take home and to pray about. Keep a copy in the class room and check off as requests are answered: yes, no, different, wait. Learn lessons from the answers; discuss lessons and prayers; what might be hindering prayers. Pray with thanksgiving for answers to earlier prayers. (Phil. 4:6)

19. A COMPLETE STUDY OF THE CHURCH AS THE LORDS FAMILY

Must not be ashamed of the message of Christ, of its oneness and straitness; man is in no position to change the plan of truth given by God. Teach that the kingdom truly is within Gods children, so that their faith is not dependent on the strength of the Christians around them. If they can be fully grounded in the truth, that their commitment is a personal bond between them and God, and that they are in the kingdom and the kingdom is within them no matter how Christians around them exalt or betray that worthy name by which they are called, then they will be faithful to that trust. Teach the specifics of the new birth; that there is only one system established by God for entrance into His family and that is through the Gospel and our response to it. Therefore, no matter how good people may be when they have not been born into the Family, they still are not members of the Family. It is birth and not the goodness that establishes the relationship. The danger in reading many excellent studies written by denominational people is that we may find ourselves measuring our goodness by theirs, and often people will feel themselves coming up short. They may conclude, How can I say Im saved and he is lost, when he is so much better than I am? Then statements begin to be made, We are not to judge; there are Christians out there in the other churches. 1. God has already judged for us in His word; there are no Christians born out of goodness instead of His Sons blood. 2. Since Christianity is a learned way of life and a choice of free will, no person is added to the Lords church while standing in ignorance of its existence. This would be very unfair of God, because when he/she learned about the actual oneness of the church he/she might not choose to be a part of it. Lets get off this denominational jargon of my church and your church and return to the realization that we are a part of the Lords church. The freedom we have in Christ: no animal sacrifices (a vivid lesson could be taught children about the gore and stench that would have been central to the temple if some meat and grain were burned in a project), freedom from the many burdensome details of law. Now, if the heart is right, most of the laws of Christ will automatically be taken care of.

Glean info from Google, encyclopedias, National Geographic magazines, mission reports, Gospel newspapers, secular newspapers. Create small sets of made of cardboard, artificial trees, animals, local housing, etc. showing a typical scene in various foreign countries. Strive for quality work and accuracy. Let this be an on-going project, working on it when there is extra time. Gradually build a library of these 3-D scenes to be used in teaching missions lessons. Plan projects to make class materials for work overseas; plan projects for collecting money for overseas; have special prayers for Christians overseas. Communicate as a class on a regular basis with a selected class overseas (provide addresses of participating congregations). In the States, choose a city, study it from the standpoint of living there; what job opportunities would be there? Write to the city council for information. Is the church there? If so, write and learn all aspects; if not, plan how you would proceed to plant it when you move there.

In the Bible, color code and number code scriptures that will guide a study of the way of salvation. Study various important denominational doctrines, to prevent acceptance of error; teach not so much against, in attacking these errors, as in expounding the scriptural points, so the error can find no place in the students heart: Pentecostalism, tongues, miracles, etc. Premillenialism. The rapture. Wealth, the reward for righteousness; riches in answer to prayer. Faith only. The name is not important. One church is as good as another. Satan, demons; Satan worship. He is a real being, not just a bad influence. He has great power and is in deadly earnestness about his work. (Matthew 24:24;1 Pet. 5:8) Warfare: Through moral corruption, drugs, alcohol, crime, humanism, Satan is turning even small children into hardened conscience-less aggressive criminals. Christians must prepare with like-strength in order to meet his onslaughts. The time of play school Christianity must be over, if the Lords church is to survive in America. We are now in deadly combat, and rapidly losing the war.

27. SPECIAL KIDS STATEMENTS AND QUESTIONS

Where was I before I was born? (not with God; pre-existence of the individual soul is not Biblical; the soul begins with human life in the flesh, then returns to God at death in the sense that it was from Him that the essence of life flowed.) Was God mean to let His own Son die? Did anybody ever try to teach the Devil, since he is behind all of our troubles? (Hebrews 2:16) A thorough study of parent/child relationship, as taught in Gods word; respect for and obedience to parents; discipline; love; training; working together to mold a soul for eternity.

28. GODS PROMISES ARE SURE

As in the human family, children must be taught the results of obedience, the consequences of disobedience. Mercy, justice, salvation for the obedient. (Israel had peace when obedient; Christians have peace of heart on earth, heaven eternally) Punishment for disobedience. (Israels was swift; defeated by nations around; sudden death to many. Christians under the New Covenant may not see immediate punishment on the earth but eternal loss is sure.) Throughout the inspired written history, God said that He used nature many times (blessing or withholding natures storehouse) in response to the way people dealt with Him. Built into Gods laws are inherent truths that bring inherent results; obedience brings its own fruit. Disobedience (Breaking of Gods rules is sin, and committing sins brings misery, emotional scars, maybe drug and alcohol addiction; immorality brings VD, AIDS) also brings its own built-in fruit. Be sure your sin will find you out.... It will. Writers should draw lessons and thoughts from the facts given in NONE OF THESE DISEASES. Death, resurrection, and the judgment. Heaven is real, a place of rest for those who have worked with God to reach that rest. Hell is real. We can simply be lazy and go there.
