According to a recent Rasmussen Report, 47% of Americans favor taxing the rich but oppose all proposed tax hikes on themselves. They believe it is okay to tax the other guy as long as you do not tax them. It is the old Robin Hood story. Take from the rich and give it to the poor. Who do they mean by the rich? Which rich people do they want to tax more? Who pays how much in taxes? As the top 50% of income earners in America already pay more than 97.75% of all income taxes paid in America, how much more should half the population pay for benefit of the other half? Charity is a selfless individual act. Government forced charity is called tyranny. The top 1% of income earners, those with an income at or above $344,000 per year, currently enjoy 19% of the nations personal income. They also pay more than 37% of the nations income taxes. The top 5%, making at or above $154,000 per year, enjoy 33% of personal income in the nation, but also pay 57% of the nations income taxes. Are these the people that 47% of Americans believe in taxing more, because they dont currently pay their fair share of taxes? The top 50% of income earners pay 97.75% of all income taxes, which must certainly be more than their fair share. The bottom 50% of income earners pay only 2.25% of all income taxes collected, which may actually be less than their fair share, for those who still think fairness has anything at all to do with our tax policies. The current tax system we have is anything but fair and has contributed to our economic decline. Our governments out of control spending has also contributed to our economic decline. What is fair is a true flat tax. A true flat rate tax is a system of taxation where one tax rate is applied to all income with no deductions or exemptions. There have been at least three times in my 27 years in business that my wife and I have mortgaged our house to the hilt, taken all of our retirement savings, and borrowed as much money as the bank would allow to invest in our three separate businesses. We assumed 100% of the risk. The government assumed 0%. Weve worked well over 40 hours per week for all of those 27 years. We employ 12 employees. We contribute to the community. Yet no less than once per quarter, the government backs a U-haul truck up to my business checking account and empties our account and calls it our fair share of taxes. Imagine how many more people I could employ if the government cut taxes, quit spending, and allowed the free enterprise system to work. We are taxed enough already! Stop the spending!
