Introduction to microbial control
Johari JalinasBSc Biomedical Sciences, UPM;MSc Entomology, UKM

Background:Pathoges ( What are Pathogens?)
Pathogens, includingviruses, bacteria, rickettsia, fungi, protozoans, and nematodes, arecommonly isolatedfrom insect and other invertebratehosts.
Theirnatural occurrencein invertebrate populationscontributes to theregulation of injurious pestsof humans and their crops, households and domesticanimals.
These entomopathogenshave potential for biological(
i.e.,microbial)
control programs (Steinhaus, 1956),and many of them have been exploited for insect pestcontrol throughinoculative, inundative andaugmentativereleases(Lacey
etal.,2001 ).
