Over the past few monthswe havebeen meeting with representatives from the University of Arizora Community for Human Rights (UACHR), a student-initiatedgroup \ryorkingon issuesrelatedto University contractorsrnd human rights. During severalof our meetings,theserepresentatives indicated that they had been involved in a very productive conversationwith you regardingthe UAPD contractwith the Motorola Corporation. In fac! the mosl recent previous updatewe had suggested that the UAPD might be preparedto severthis relationshipwith Motorola, if a suitablesubstitute vendorcould be found. At our latestmeeting(12/4),however,the student representatives indicatedthat communicationover this matter had endedunilaterally on your part as of this past October. Our committeeis scheduled meetwith President to 2010. Basedon Sheltonon this and othermatterson 15 January compelling international evidenceof Motorola's ryrong{oing (which was provided to you by the UACHR), particularly in the Israelalestine arena"rreare going to discussour grave concernsover this contracl and indicate to PresidentSheltonthat we are attempringto assess relevartpositions on this issue.We would very much all appreciatebeing able to include your views in our assessment when we meet with the President ardto be able to tell him that you are willing to provide us with relevant information from your perspetive. that end, we invite To you to respond this memorandurn, laterthan 8 January2010,eiter to no your views onthis "o*""icating contract, or indicating your willingness to meet with our Commieeto assis[us in making our recommendation to PresidentShelton.
