    The University of Arizona Committee for Monitoring Labor and Human Rights Issues (UCMHRI) is writing to the University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) commander regarding the UAPD's contract with Motorola Corporation. The committee has been meeting with student groups concerned about the contract and human rights issues. They were previously told that the UAPD might end the Motorola contract if another suitable vendor could be found. However, communication on the issue ended in October. Given evidence of Motorola's wrongdoing, particularly in Israel/Palestine, the committee plans to raise concerns about the contract with the university president and wants the commander's views to include in their assessment.

Over the past few monthswe havebeen meeting with representatives from the University of Arizora Community for Human Rights (UACHR), a student-initiatedgroup \ryorkingon issuesrelatedto University contractorsrnd human rights. During severalof our meetings,theserepresentatives indicated that they had been involved in a very productive conversationwith you regardingthe UAPD contractwith the Motorola Corporation. In fac! the mosl recent previous updatewe had suggested that the UAPD might be preparedto severthis relationshipwith Motorola, if a suitablesubstitute vendorcould be found. At our latestmeeting(12/4),however,the student representatives indicatedthat communicationover this matter had endedunilaterally on your part as of this past October. Our committeeis scheduled meetwith President to 2010.
