The interior of a building is the interior of the city

Roy Nash, Founder of P-U-R-A

P-U-R-A is a Platform for Urban Research and Architecture an international Partnership, working on a wide range of projects from Master Plans to interiors as well as entering international competitions for major projects. Collaborations take place with the best experts in the field of Architecture and Construction Industry, combining the most innovative and consolidated experience at the right moment of time. The research developed at P-U-R-A is used for incorporating latest technologies initially during design stage - but eventually at the final stage of a project showing innovative solutions responding to current problems within the global context. We have offices in London, Milan and Prague - each one having their own highly trained team and expertise.

P-U-R-A is a platform. It is an experimental organism of ideas, thoughts, and working systems moving from the global to the local scale through shared and relational processes with common goals. There is an infrastructure in which the software can be continuously updated using new technologies to register, to frame several data and to insert them in the synthesis of the becoming process of a project, to prefigure landscapes susceptible to transformations and mutations. P-U-R-A is urban design. Cities are material expression of a culture, the physical organization of society in a spatial form. The form of the city is the construction of the physical way of staying, of sharing, of working, of human interacting, the way of inhabiting this world. In the global context the synergic relations between built-up spaces and society are subjected to overlapped contaminations (Roy Nash).P-U-R-A works with urban material to design a continuous updated modus vivendi in the public and common spatial platform of the global territory, with a special care to the individuals and the place in which they live. P-U-R-A is research. Research means experimentation, exploration, creativity, movement, flux of ideas, to cross the line of economical, human and ethical values. The overall aim is to respond to the Zeitgeist and its important raised questions, with the consciousness and knowledge of the past and a special look into the future, reaching far beyond the present. Facing fragmentation and complexity of global territories P-U-R-A believes it is possible to define a modus operandi enabling mankind to rethink the current urban and architectural realities. P-U-R-A is architecture. Architecture reveals identities through spaces of gathering and interaction. Identity is given by the historical memory of places, by the evolution of the form, combined with the interpretation of existing needs(Roy Nash). The elaboration of new codes might be useful to explore the complex interaction among urban dynamic systems. Spaces are susceptible to changes, flexible, interconnected by short-mutable relations, recognizable but sensible to the alteration of the form as in the generative gene of transformation, dynamism and experimentation(Roy Nash).

Current research activities of P-U-R-A are held at academic institutions in Milan and Prague focussing on Master Planning and Architecture within the European context. Current PhD research of Roy Nash on infilling processes and urban graft is undertaken at the Faculty of Architecture at Polytechnic University of Milan (ITA). PhD research by Rene Dlesk outlines the differences of post-communistic urban development in a number of countries by case studies of Leipzig (DE) and Bratislava (SVK) is being undertaken at the Faculty of Architecture of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (SVK). The future aim of research activities of P-U-R-A is to establish closer cooperation with Universities and the Industry, boosting their mutual collaboration on research projects on an international level. Respectively apply the results in actual or theoretical projects and workshops and present them on conferences lectures and exhibitions.

VISUALISATION (RENDERING) The Production of Architectural Visualisations and Representations (Renderings) is an important part of the design stage utilizing latest design tools used in Architecture. The software allows us to create a representation/ visuals of a project that has not been realized. At the same time it makes the communication between the Architect and the client easier by being able to see some representation of the final product. <link to contacts>

DESIGN & EXECUTION: P-U-R-A works closely with clients project managing the whole process and guiding them through all phases of the project from initial design and Planning Permissions to finalized detailed design and execution on site. P-U-R-A also works with contractors from the Construction Industry for the successful realization/execution of the project. At each stage of the project the client is an inseparable part of the process in order to achieve the best outcome of a project - in respect to design/budgets/timelines.

One of our key areas is the development of innovative design solutions either for a client directly or otherwise for competitions. Recently won competitions: 2nd - AAA architetticercasi 2010/Milan - Cascina Merlata 1st - Premio Bergamo di architettura, 2010

Design can be timeless just when a series of elements keep it alive. But the end, history is a stratification of events as cities are a stratification of building, edificated, changed and possibly destroyed. We tell a story of history of our time, time itself will tell what to do with our story.
Roy Nash, Founder of P-U-R-A

As a Cross European Architecture & Design Practice in the 21st century it bears challenges as well as opportunities. Focussing on the second one P-U-R-A offer an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas within the European architectural context bearing in mind the trauma of WWII and the cold war which had been separating Europe into several parts ruled by different political systems. Within the architectural/Masterplanning context just by comparing the old city of Prague and its control of car traffic with sophisticated highways on several levels neglecting the historic routes within the city, which in comparison to an Italian city - where those highways would most unlikely be able to be granted under even current Italian planning laws. P-U-R-A wants to step into this vacuum/silence almost like seeing a site the first time - with a new viewpoint and design approach as based on untold planning law uniting countries and communities but most importantly which are the smallest factor as in individual but as the community creating those networks. Using this fundamental research as a basis for developing new concepts of Masterplanning and buildings P-U-R-A uses this source as an example of how cities and buildings can be improved and looked at in all countries of the world.
