Food, Agriculture, and the Environment Discussion Paper 28
Livestock to 2020
The Next FoodRevolution
Christo pher Del  gado  Mark Rosegrant  Henning Stein feld   Simeon Ehui Claude Cour bois
“A 2020 Vision for Food, Agriculture, and the Environment” is an initiative of the Inter national Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) to develop a shared vision and  a consensus for action on how to meet future world food needs while reducing pov- erty and protecting the environment. It grew out of a concern that the inter national community is setting priorities for ad dressing these problems based on incom plete infor mation. Through the 2020 Vision initiative, IFPRI is bringing together diver- gent schools of thought on these issues, gener ating research, and identifying recom- mendations. This discussion pa per series presents technical research results that encom pass a wide range of sub jects drawn from research on policy-relevant as pects of agricul- ture, poverty, nutrition, and the environment. The discussion pa pers contain material that IFPRI believes is of key inter est to those involved in ad dressing emerging food  and development problems. The views ex pressed in the pa pers are those of the authors, and not necessar ily endorsed by IFPRI. These discussion pa pers undergo review but typically do not present final research results and should be consid ered as works in progress.
