1.
Since technology has become more and more interconnected with networks andtelecommunications, society now depends and lives off these technologies that are embeddedin every area of our lives. I am very dependent on these networks and telecommunications, because they allow me to be “connected” to everything around me. I use a cell phone and thecellular network provides me with a way to reach my friends and family wherever they may be. Since the proliferation of cell phones, things like payphones and land-line telephones have become scarcely available. If I was unable to use the cellular network, I would be cut off from my friends and family, and they would not be able to contact me. An example of howthis would affect my daily activity is if I was in a shopping mall or other public space and Idid not know exactly where to meet my friend, I wouldn’t be able to decide which directionto go look for them.I also use the internet daily in my life, for many different things. If I were to be cut off fromthe internet, it would affect my schoolwork, personal life, communication channels, and awealth of information that would not be available to me. Without Internet I could not use our university’s blackboard website, and I would not be able to check my student email, check onwhen assignments are due, or even take test and quizzes for any CIS classes. I would not beable to decide on what I needed to complete for every class, and I would not know when classschedules change and not be able to decide if I needed to study for a quiz or to not evenattend class if it is canceled.2.Smart phones have become very powerful “pocket computers” replacing the older PDA’s of the past. They offer much more features than “dumb phones” that are just phones with basicsending and receiving calls. With smart phones employees can now check email, viewdocuments like spreadsheets and word files, use the internet through 3G or Wi-Fi networks, text or Instant message colleagues, and use any applications that they install on their smart phones. A good example is the Stock Market application on the Apple iPhone that allowsemployees to check stock prices wherever they may be. A business such as Rackspace hostingcompany could implement smart phones with any applications that would help them becomemore productive, and have their employees be more connected and available if any problems
