first joint collection by designers from

Dubai and Berlin at fashion show in
Dubai
The joint fashion collection Dubai-Berlin Fashion Fusion of eight
young designers from Dubai and Berlin was presented recently
at a fashion show, focussing on fashion influenced by both cities.
The event, that started at 8pm and took place at The Pavilion
Downtown Dubai, was organised by the Goethe-Institut German
Language Center Dubai, liaison office of the Goethe-Institut Gulf
Region. This was part of the 2nd Berlin-Dubai Festival, which took
place in October/November 2011. An integral part of the Festival
was the Young Designers Fashion Exchange Project, including
the designers, who presented their joint work at the fashion show.
In the context of the exchange programme, the Emirati designers
Khulood Thani, Maryam Selaich and Madeyya Almazroie and the
Dubai based German-Egyptian designer Mona
Fares visited Berlin in order to meet young fashion
innovators from the German capital and gain firsthand insight into their work. In return, four fashion
design students from Esmod Berlin International
University of Art for Fashion, Lena Braatz, Sophie
Boehmert, Marina Hoermanseder and Anna
Wilhelmi, travelled to Dubai to be introduced
to the Emirati fashion design scene during the
Berlin-Dubai Festival 2011. This close exchange
of views on fashion brought to the creation of a
joint collection by the eight young designers.

The Primary Court in Al Buraimi issued a decision convicting

the suspect of the misdemeanor of drug possession and
addiction and it issued a decision of imprisonment for the first

imprisonment of two years for the second charge with a fine of
one thousand Omani Rials commuted to only six months with a
fine of 1500 Omani Rials to be implemented. The suspect shall
be deported from the country and all drugs confiscated. The
Drug Combating Department received information indicating
that the suspect possess and abuses drugs. After confirming
the validity of the information, the Public Prosecutor issued the
necessary judicial orders to seize him. After being referred
to the Public Prosecutor, the suspect pleaded guilty to the
charges and he was referred to the court.

Crime Combat Policemen from the General Directorate

origin including, one woman, who were charged with forging

the person who was forging documents with the assistance of
a woman of the same nationality in Sidab in Matrah region.
After that, policemen raided the house where the forgery of

people and acquired forged scientific certificates, medical

cooperation with Drugs Combat Department managed to arrest
a person of Asian nationality aged 23 years , who attempted to
smuggle drugs into the Sultanate.
The policemen from Drugs Combat Department in the General

suggesting that an Asian person was trying to smuggle drugs
into the Sultanate. Immediately, the policemen followed the

even when it is unacceptable for society and in the end may
even cause divorce between married couples.
Different opinions polled about this mater especially among
men who want to know the attitude of their wife or sister by
using the mobile phones. Big debate ensues if men have the
right to see their wifes SMS or phone calls.

There are opinions to support the debate that relationships

Differences in natures

Susan Al Kindi said that mobile phones are the only tool
of communication that women have for all of their private

a womans world, explaining that one of her
colleagues always felt that her partner whom
she loved for two years without problems,

The launching

Aisha appeared again at the 9th Omani Song

Festival which was held in the final months of
2011. The festival was the real start for Aisha
as it was a very famous local competition,
especially as Aisha was known since her
first participation in the 2nd season of the
festival.
Aisha said, My participation in the 9th
season was the gateway to the hearts of the
Omani audience.Competing and wining
second place wasn't easy, especially as
the other singers were professionals and all of
them had famous pieces of work to perform,
which made me doubt that I would be able
to successfully compete against them,
especially after my rest she continued.
As she stood on stage in front of
the audience Aisha explained that
she was very nervous, and was
terrified especially after her sound
system broke down which made
her listen to her voice while singing
and this confused her very much.
Aisha didn't hope to win an award in the
festival, rather she wanted to evaluate her
talent and to make sure that she had the ability to
perform for her audiences in the way she dreamed of.
She preferred to participate in this festival without depending on
votes from her relatives or friends despite the fact that the votes
would determine the winners. Aisha was certain that the audiences
love and admiration they felt towards her would determine her
fate as she felt that they would vote for her talent.

Hope and Ambitious

Aisha hopes to continue her artistic career as she is

multi-talented and has achieved a lot since starting
her concerts and programmes and has acted in
some TV series in 1999. She dreams of the growth
of the musical and artistic scene where more
production companies will be established.
"Without a lot of production companies the
Omani artists will be like caged birds" Aisha said.
She stated that self-confidence is the most
important thing in any career and especially
an artistic career. The artist must always aim
to produce good work and not only aim to be
famous.

Song Festival. She stopped singing
for a while but came back with her
delightful voice which captured
the hearts of the entire audience.
She is the Omani songbird Aisha
El Zidgalayah, and we have the
pleasure to introduce her to you
through our pages.

The Beginning

How she began. Aisha said that her family discovered her
talent when she was young and decided to encourage
her talent and helped her to develop it. They supported her
participation in concerts and all musical activities in school.
Their support and Aishas efforts came to fruition in 2000 when she
had the opportunity to participate in the 2nd Omani Song Festival.
I was only 16 years old but I won an award which I consider the
most precious award of my entire artistic life, because it was the
first official honour I received, Aisha said, as she spoke about the
Outstanding Performance Award she received.

International participations

Aisha considers the 2nd Omani Song Festival as her gateway to participation in
the Dubai Song Festival where she was nominated by Sheikh Abdulla El Amri.
El Amri encouraged Aisha a lot and supported her from the beginning, so much
so that Aisha considers him her Godfather. El Amri chose the name Abeer for
Aisha to use as her professional stage name instead of Aisha.
Aisha added: There was very strong competition in Dubai as there were singers
from all of the Arab countries and every one had his own style of singing, thats
why I thought that I would not win, but I was awarded second place, which gave
me more self-confidence. The most important thing was that the festival gave
me the fame I needed and made me a more public figure especially within the
media at this event"

Stopping period

After she won second place in the Dubai song festival, Aisha decided to stop
singing for a while, almost 10 years. Aisha confirmed that this rest period was
purely for practice and study. She believed that she needed to reassess her
style and talent. Aisha decided that she did not want to be known as an amateur
singer so she began to study music at the same time as she worked in a regular
job which she considered was close to her talent.
