Mistakes in Academic Library Management: Grievous Errors and How to Avoid Them addresses the most common library management issues, examining mistakes that anyone in a library management position could make, coupled with suggestions for how the issue could be better handled or avoided. The result is the recognition and formation of tools to aid developing managers in identifying potential pitfalls.

Jack E. Fritts Jr. addresses a range of management issues, including campus politics, communication, information technology, staff, and planning. There is also a chapter that addresses library management from the perspective of a chief academic officer. All those in library management positions, or who aspire to library management positions, will profit from the discussions of common but potentially severe mistakes in library management presented in this book.

This is a very pragmatic collection of short essays about several aspects of management and leadership applied to academic libraries (in the US): change management (mostly), project management, knowledge management, assessment, etc. The essays are of variable quality, but they all contain good leads to further in-depth references. A good starting point.

I highly recommend this book for anyone contemplating library management at any level. This is recommended for those individual who are already in library management positions. The book wll discuss how simple and innocent the mistakes may occur, but it also discusses ways to prevent it in the future or for it not even to occur. The chapters are really short and do not have to be read consectively; you can pick and choose the topic your interested in reading first. It took me a day and a half to read the book - lesss if I had more time.
