Fernando Alonsowas born on the 29
th
July 1981 inOviedo in Northern Spain. He began his career asa professional Formula One Racing Driver withMinardi, a racing team, at the 2001 AustralianGrand Prix. He was the youngest driver to win theFormula One Championship in 2005, when he was24 years old. This was taken over by LewisHamilton in 2008.As a child, his mother worked in departmentstore and his father worked as a mechanic.
Alonso’s father was an amateur car racer and
he wanted to pass on his passion of cars tohis children. He built a pedal cart, originally
for Fernando’s sister, but she showed no
interest in the sport. Fernando was only 3 years old at the time, but he soon becamepassionate about racing!
His family couldn’t afford all the equipment
needed for a career in motor sport, but hequickly became successful and companieswanted to sponsor him.
