Foreword
For the student who ully entersinto the demands o our diploma, art school will challenge andchange you. For some it can be adening moment in your lie, or atleast a change in how you think about art and the world. Shits inperception may be caused by asingle event, a sudden revelation,or there can be an incremental, imperceptible change rom oneday to the next. Art school is aspecial place where signicantchanges can occur. How youconceptually, visually, andemotionally respond to yourworld, and the world aroundyou, is what this program askedo you. The opportunity thatart school oers is the reedomto pursue a personal visuallanguage and to eel part o apast, present and uture culturalendeavour.O course the most recognisablechange is evident in the student’sart work. The development o skills, ideas, and directions taken:rom the skill building o Year 1to the more ocused, sel directedart work o Year 2. Art schoolsshould avoid house styles, where students are expected tocollectively come to the sameconclusions. Journeys o personaldiscovery lead to outcomes inmany dierent directions. The transition rom irst yearto second year also presentsa signiicant transition. Thatresh studio space you enterin February with its blank walls can be daunting. Thisyears’ graduates have acedchallenges and changes and areto be congratulated on wherethey are now. Many o our graduating studentswill go on to degree courses andbeyond. Some will take time o study or work or travel beoredeciding to return. Others willset themselves up in a studio andpursue a practice. Whether thecreative directions they beganare continued, or urther studyleads to broader pursuits, theseyears at TAFE have set you o onan exciting journey.Phillip AllanFirst year coordinator
