Letters
I need advice, please!

Your letter made me cry myself to sleep. I can only do my best, but if my best is not good enough, what is? I will look up Motorcycle magazine to see if they print info on cars, but how it relates to me I am more unsure about, as I do not like motorcycles. But I am willing to take a short term interest in it.
Short letter!

I can understand why you turn to me for advice. My main concern are your sheep. While the hens might have a large enough space to roam around in, but the sheep will have a feeling of being landlocked. Given a choice many sheep and especially young lams would prefer life to death. Maybe it is time for you to move on, and set the sheep free? You can produce a massive amount of veg on the land the sheep previously used. (If you wish to farm vegan organically you must first remove all the sheep manure.)
I am NOT semi!

I do hope you get round to writing something. So many people would love to read your views, but I fully understand if you do not have time to dot them down.

From the editor

I was going to give this issue away for free, but the cost is to high. While the last issue cost 32p to print per copy, this one cost 1.62! It actually cost more to print this issue than the Vegan Views book with over 200 pages! Weird!

Text: Knut Caspari

o I have decided to be sensible. I will sell subscriptions and then once in a while I will publish a big book, which will be sold cheaply or given away for free. It will look like the Vegan Views book I published and contain the best articles from this magazine and maybe other articles that come my way.

My journey to abolitionism
I was raised in an environment where I was encouraged to be inquisitive. If I didnt question everything and learn from the responses I received, then my parents would be disappointed in me.

What is welfarism and what is abolition: A comparison

Welfarism Abolitionism

Ask yourself now, where your views mostly align with. How many welfarist and how many abolitionist statements do you agree with?

Animal rights and human wrongs

The relationship between animals and law is a cycle of cruelty caused and controlled by and for man. Where mans benefit is balanced against a beasts burden, the human animal usually wins. Even such limited legal rights as animals have are subject to human interests.

Cohousing in Britain
For two decades Diggers & Dreamers has extolled the virtues of communal living. But this has largely been through the eyes of hard core communards who are prepared to share many facilities and live very closely with their fellow co-operators on a day-to-day basis.

The semi-vegan! in the news

The text below was taken from the website: veganbodybuilding.org

We also gave some room on the stall to Knut, the ex-editor of the ever popular Vegan Views magazine for his new project. Now bear in mind Knut comes from Norway, but he named his new magazine The semi-vegan! Now before you send an email off to me complaining, its him that named it & yes it is awful! The magazine itself follows a similar format to Vegan Views, but one article did have honey in it (as one person said Why not use golden syrup?). I think you, being much brighter than Knut,

should be able to come up with a better name than The semi-vegan!, so Ill set you a challenge! Send Knut a new magazine name to knut.caspari@gmail.com with the subject title A better name for your magazine & if he picks that name you will win a DVD I will send you & any other goodies we can find. This is open to anyone in any country, help out poor old Knut, get his magazine a decent title. So what are you waiting for, get your thinking caps on & win some goodies!

After fervent prayers and prolonged effort, my attempts to get myself fired were finally successful. Well, maybe not quite fired, but at least the next best thing: my services were not required for a while. Such is the nature of locum work.

Ironing on the summit of Mt Snowdon, the highest poin stay for seconds on the top of the summit cairn.

Text and photos: Andrew Knight.

This interesting Chinook kept circling and seemed to be doing mock landings. Either they wanted to borrow my ironing gear and have a go themselves, or were practicing for mountain rescues.

ide to ironing!

Whilst waiting, and waiting for someone (anyone!) to come and help take photos, I admired these mountain sheep across the valley. They are the ultimate climbers, leaving humans for dead. I watched one fearlessly traverse the face of an almost-cliff to reach a small grassy ledge where it continued to graze.

Finally, after a freezing half hour waiting, an entire group of about 15 undergrad guys appeared. They took some pics for me, and then all had a go themselves! They loved it, as did everyone I met! Some of them had never even ironed before!!

A view of liberation
I am more concerned with liberating myself than with liberating animals (not that this isnt worthwhile) and I believe that such a general liberation of people is a necessary condition before all the worthwhile causes such as veganism become redundant.

Auto-nomadic way of life

Many people are now looking for freer, simpler ways of life, which can be enjoyed on a very moderate income, and so release them from the rat race.

Text: Celia Barrie Reprinted from issue 3 of Vegan Views, 1975.

Pacifism
This is a subject I have always felt I should know more about. When confronted with war all thinking people must realise its horror and futility. Yet, understandably, no one wishes to give away his possessions to any ruffian who throws his weight about.

Text: Harry Mather Reprinted from issue 3 of VV, 1975.

Personal approach to veganism

I have been struggling for the past 3 months to redirect myself towards the goal of as-practicalas-possible veganism.

Random thoughts on a Finnish roof

My initial impression as I surveyed the precarious ascent to the summit was that my nerve would fail and I would find it impossible to make the climb.
