Daily Report 7th February Max led the interfaith prayer and the centring over the past

st 30 years I have learnt that some of the best lessons come from people who we least expect it. Vietnam won the war against America, America left but I (Max) stayed. Befriended a North Vietnamese soldier, his family was killed by American bombs and had spent 10 years in the jungle because of the war. He never said anything bad to me (Max) or about Americans. When Max asked why, he told him we need to know who our friends and enemies are, someday our enemies may become our friends and our enemies become our friends. We are not always taught by highly educated people but sometimes from people who we think should be our enemy. Poli and Julio led the daily report for Friday 3rd February. Peace and Erica led the daily report for Monday 6th February Max gave the hot news about Philippians earthquake and the 4 villagers shot dead in South Thailand Film Reflection: Kiriko y y He is very small but very good at creative thinking. Kiriko is told that he is too small and too young; no one believes he can achieve great things but Kiriko is not prepared to wait. This happens a lot in society all over the world; we are all told that we are too young! One person can do many things We need to have determination. We need to ask why? like Kiriko if we want to find answers. We need to think critically. Need to look deeper and get to the root cause of the problem to find a solution that works. Only Kiriko asked why the sorceress was angry and evil, when he found out why he knew he could help, even though sometimes helping a person in pain can cause more pain to start. The healing process is not always easy. Sometimes this pain is too hard to face alone and we need help from others. When we ask questions, we have nothing to lose but if we dont ask questions we lose the opportunity to learn. There was complacency from villagers to accept things the way they were; they did not want to do anything to change the situation. The struggle continues as long as there is complacency. Fear is a very powerful emotion, if we are scared of something or someone then we is controlled by them. Everyone carries out actions because of their stories; we need to ask people about their stories in order to understand their actions.

Small group reports:

Everybody try to explain what happen in the country about poor people and reach people, how many % and etc

HOMEWORK How we do define poor? How do we find reliable information?

LEARN? PROCESS by MERCY Learning Process Approaches to learning Transformative learning Task There is Questions for the group and individual what they learn from outside not formal learning (Everybody try to explain what they learn, the method, content, people and context) The learning process? We need other people learn carefully, listen and understand observing, keep trying, reflection, doing, media, willingness aim and objective Learning comes from we need learning should be relevant Learn how to do -> SKILL Giving and Taking Learning from non expert (animals, nature) Learning from mistake, by sharing, and by the close community Self motivated, encouragement, sense of exited and feel joy

The purpose has to be Change Starting Goal EDUCATION

Knowledge is objective formal education whether you like or not just pumping the knowledge HIERARCHY INFLUENCE of EDUCATION People just excepted the education Learn to ask question, doesn`t motivate to ask Questions Become passive Graduation that`s all her/his thinking

NEW EDUCATION (BANGKING APPROACH by PAULO FREIRE) Not transforming but conforming The method have to relevant to student Before teaching have to understand the reality and analysth RIVER OF LIFE MAX There is a few subject while college Many community his work his a writer has 2 book publish and the other still in his mind (1st poetry about Vietnam, and novel about organization community what kind of people in Islam) Learn from his life and got movement never thought what his work will become global THE POINT is Sometimes good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people And what mom said -> Don`t worry GOD always has plan with you PHALLY Grown up in small family Just for while his grown with his father After 9 years his father come back his father work in other country Thailand JUNE Grown in small city south Thailand Don`t like what she study chemical try to make her parent happy and travelling a lot KAMSHA Half China and Laos Big things happen and change on 18 Become a volunteer his had opportunity to travelling a lot

Try to open self to community and learn Cooperation activity Split into 3 groups; workers, students and professionals. The workers had to build houses, each house had to have 16 sticks. 1 house = 5 points. When you get 50 points 1 worker can move up to students. When 3 workers have moved to students you can move one student up to professional. The aim is to get everyone up to the level of professional. Thoughts and feelings about this game y y y Anger, frustration and guilt were felt, my actions as a student resulted in negative outcomes for the workers. Did not like being judged by other peoples standards Professionals could give instructions to workers but workers cannot have their own voice heard. There is a big gap between worker and professional and this causes a communication gap. We all get the benefit of the work but not all actually do the work, only the workers. No one questioned the rebels and when we rebelled the workers suffered and the rebellion was stamped out. The workers felt like and were being treated like a machine, with no feelings or thoughts of their own. Violence was with the policy makers not the people. When the NGOs/INGOs go in and help the people, the people can suffer like in Burma Villagers suffered at the hands of the Burmese military because they had received help from the NGOs Fine line between cooperation and complacency.

Maxs thoughts The game is actually called Revolution, it makes you see why policy makers make the people revolt against them. The anger and frustration gets too much for them. WE need to look at where the violence is, is it with the people revolting for change or with the structure of the system? Davids thoughts As much as the workers lives were being taken away, it gave them life as well. It was their labour that gives people shelter. Being in the student or professional group it looked boring. Labour promotes life! There was also no cooperation between professionals; do our leaders have a united front? 1 leader speaks and they are rarely speaking for the people. Also, everyone wants to move up in the social hierarchy, someone has got it into our heads that the professional is the best place to be. Why should I always be catching up? Why should we all like to be like America? What is it we really want to be? We need to set our own goal and not set it where someone else tells us it should be. We spend our lives being put into

boxes; we need to think outside the box. Who sets the standard? Do you set your own standard or does someone/society or the rich set it for you? Mercys thoughts: Labour promotes life but the labourers had no control over their own labour and even when they had built the house, someone else came along and made a judgement about it. This is very dehumanising.
