Description

The Survey & Review of Visayan-Eskaya Secondary Source Materials was compiled in response to the two widely lamented limitations of Visayan-Eskaya studies. Namely, the scarcity of secondary research texts and the general unreliability of existing materials. The purpose of this review is not principally to provide a critique of the materials but to draw up a road map for Visayan-Eskaya researchers who wish to navigate through the secondary sources before gathering new data. With a critical approach, even untrustworthy information may still be evaluated and plundered for seeds of truth. More importantly, the broad consistencies that surface across these texts are essential for sketching a general picture of the community, its language and its traditions. The Survey & Review covers all available materials that mention the Visayan-Eskaya up until July 1993. Its scope is as broad as possible and includes open letters, unpublished dissertations, government publications, newspaper and magazine articles,and university papers.
