Foreign literature Texting may affect students writing skills according to Dr. Diane Hamilton I often talk to my students about whether they feel texting has caused people to have more difficulties with their writing skills. I personally see a lot of first-year students who abbreviate quite a bit, lack punctuation skills and don t write in complete sentences. Texting may also affect the students vocabulary as cited by Oxford learning blog Don t get me wrong, instant messaging is a great tool for social communication, but it can cause some serious issues the classroom, especially if your child is just developing writing/spelling/vocabulary skills. During the early education years, texting could be detrimental to proper language development. Texting has negative effects in human relations also as cited by Psychology major Diana Diaz in Cesar Marquez journal, text messaging is dangerous, not only does it ruin social interaction between humans, writing skills and expression. Everything becomes so impersonal and simple. Texting also affects the linguistic development of teenagers according to Linguist professor at the University of Texas at El Paso Richard Teschner Young people using this form of communication; their brains get accustomed to picturing words in the short text forms . Abbreviations of words are also done with words, that the students doesn t write correctly as cited by Mrs. Wooden in Jared Broyles report "They take vowels out of words because that's what they are used to doing, they don't capitalize words they don't punctuate sentences. They just add extra spaces at the end. They use abbreviations." Texting has its effects in the teens usage English grammar. The biggest problem with teens talking and writing this way is that it is hurting the way our teens are using English grammar. No research says that writing like this is good for grammar; as a matter a fact everything points to the fact that this is hurting the way grammar is used. Our teens need to stop using incorrect grammar in texting and writing, as said by Kayla Hisel (2011).
