Muritai School Leadership Roles for 2012

Head Boy/Girl and Deputies:

Duties:

  • Give out student certificates at assembly
  • Taking an important role in formal school events
  • Greeting new visitors to the school and showing them around.
  • Liaising with teachers on student matters
  • Giving out house points to children in junior school
  • Once a week on duty and give out playground certificate.
  • Representing the school and official occasions e.g ANZAC day
  • Writing and delivering end of year speeches at Year 8 formal.
  • Possibly chairing school council meetings

Some of the Qualities required:

Class Representatives.

Duties:

  • In charge when teacher is out of room.
  • Assist students and teacher in class.
  • Write out certificates for student of the week.
  • Publish class updates on blog.
  • Organizing class relays.
  • Developing a class chant.
  • Liaising with classroom teacher on student matters.

House Captains

Duties:

  • Shared responsibility of collecting and recording house points around the school.
  • Organising house relays for sport events
  • Announcing house points in assemblies
  • Encouraging dress up for sports day
  • Creating flyers or newsletter to ‘sell’ and ‘educate’ others on history of the house.

Duties:

  • Organise assembly script and agenda

  • Liase with Mr Devenport, Mrs Hooke and Mr Bird on assembly programme
  • Practise!
  • Liaise with other teachers if class is presenting work

Assembly Set up / AV Support

Duties:

  • Music (CD’s, Musical Instruments) organized and tested ready for assembly
  • Setting up laptop and operating through assembly
  • Operating Sound system through assembly
  • Setting up chairs for assembly
  • Setting up and testing microphones
  • Setting up and operating projector screen
  • Setting up cones for aisle
  • Liaising with assembly hosts, Mr.

Devenport and Mrs. Hooke on assembly organisation

Some of the Qualities required:

  • Tech savvy with laptop, data projector and sound system
  • Excellent communication skills

Charity Organisers

Duties:

  • Selecting charities to support
  • Liaising with teachers on charities
  • Promoting charities to support to school community
  • Collecting and counting the money
  • Advertising charity days
  • Contributing to birds eye view and blogs

Enviro School Ambassadors

Duties:

  • Tour guide for enviro visitors
  • Promoting environmental awareness and practice throughout the school
  • Managing class practice – goose boxes, recycling boxes.
  • Introducing new enviro practice
  • Managing enviro blog
  • Organising school wide gardening club
  • Liaising with Mrs. Berry and other teahers throughout the school

Some of the Qualities required:

  • Strong knowledge of Muritai’s environmental journey
  • A strong appreciation of the value of environmental education
  • Strong communication skills
  • Responsible and trust-worthy
  • A keen gardener!

Muritai TV

Duties:

  • Manage whole Muritai TV process (including, creating ideas, scripting hosting and editing)
  • Liaising with Mr Bird
  • Presenting Muritai TV items in assembly
  • End of term news item – terms highlights for assembly
  • Ensuring Room 10 – ‘Studio’ is kept clean and tidy
  • Ensuring there prgramme caters for children with special needs.

  • Tech savvy - particularly in operating video cameras and using imovie
  • Clear, Fluent, articulate and confident speaker and reader
  • Excellent organization skills

Sports Ambassadors

Duties:

  • Supporting Mr. McKay in the management of PE equipment throughout the school
  • Assisting in organization of Inter- school events
  • Taking leadership roles and assisting teachers in junior sports events
  • Organising lunch time games
  • Possible leadership role in Wednesday sport rotation
  • Contribute to school newsletters
  • Ensuring parent and teacher coaches are formally acknowledged and thanked for their time.

  • Demonstrating strength in a particular area of physical education would be an advantage.

Wet Weather Monitors

Duties:

  • Supervise junior classrooms during wet lunchtimes
  • Play with them!
  • Organise games activities from junior children.
  • Liaising with junior teachers

Kapa Haka Leaders

Duties:

  • Liaise with Mr. Chadwick
  • Lead the Year 7/8 in Kapa Haka Practise
  • Support Mr Chadwick in Kapa Haka organisation
  • Take lead in Powhiri

Some of Qualities required:

  • Strong knowledge of Te Reo and Kapa Haka processes
  • A confident leader
  • Enjoy working with younger children

Art Ambassadors

Duties:

  • Liaise with Mrs. Berry, Mrs Hooke and Mrs Allen on art matters
  • Assist with school production and wearable arts preparations
  • Available for assisting with art in junior classes

  • A passion for all things arty!
  • Creative
  • Responsible and trust-worthy

Junior Lunch Duty – Year 7

Duties

  • Assisting duty teacher with crowd control during eating time
  • Checking lunchboxes in junior school
  • Giving house points
  • Liaising with Mrs. Buckley
  • Possible leader – to co-ordinate rosters etc

Assembly Buddies – Year 7

Duties:

•Sitting with junior classes during

assembly to help keep them focused.

  • Meeting classes before hand and taking them to assembly.
  • Liaising with junior teachers

School Council

  • This is a possibilities for establishing towards the end of Term 1.
  • Made up of the school leader.
  • Option of class captains from Year 5/6
  • Meet at once or twice a term to express student voice.
  • Liaise with Mr Devenport and Mr Bird.
