Description

The purpose of the Transit Service Policy is to help staff make informed decisions when changing bus and rail services. The policy ensures that staff will make fair and consistent evaluations of service that are not only attentive to the needs of transit customers, but also consider the limitations of the agency’s resources. The policy also promotes consistency among Service Sectors and supports the goals of the Strategic Performance Program.
The policy also guides decision-making during the service change process. The policy is organized into four main sections: 1) Bus Route and Design Guidelines; 2) Bus Performance Measures; 3) Rail Policies, and 4) Planning process.
The updated policy includes refinements to five existing policies and four new provisions. The four new provisions are:
1. Metro Rapid Warrants;
2. Bus Lane Criteria;
3. Public Notification Tasks and Calendar, and
4. Service Change Program template.
