MEANING OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS


Industrial relations refer to all types of relationships B/w all the parties concerned with the industry e.g. individual relations and joint consultation B/w employers and workers at the place of work.

POINTS ABOUT INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS


 Industrial relations involves two partiesemployers and employees.  Industrial relations include relations B/w employers associations and trade unions.  Industrial relations do not exist in a vacuum.  Main purpose of industrial relations is to maintain harmonious relationship B/w Mgt and labor.  Industrial relations is mainly concerned with the employer-employee relationship.

MAIN ASPECT OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS




    

Labour Relations, i.e. relations between union and management. Employer-employees relations, i.e. relations between management and employees. Group relations, i.e. relations between various groups of workmen. Community or Public relations, i.e. relations between industry and society. Promotions and development of healthy labourmanagements relations. Maintenance of industrial peace and avoidance of industrial strife.

CAUSES OF POOR INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS


 Economic Factors: Poor wages and poor working conditions are the main reason for unhealthy relations B/w Mgt and workers.  Organizational Factors: It includes faulty communication system, unfair practices, etc.  Social Causes: Dissatisfaction with jobs and personal life results into industrial conflicts.  Psychological Causes: Lack of job security, poor organizational culture, etc.  Political Causes: Political nature of trade unions, multiple unions and inter union rivalry weaken trade union movement.
