THE THENAR OR LIFE LINE OR THE EARTH LINE:A FEW FALLACIES
In the book 'The hands of children, an introduction to psycho-chirology', by Julius Spier, C.G. Jung writes that 'The totality of conception of modern biology which is based on the evidence of a host of observations and research does not exclude thepossibility that hands, whose shape and functioning are sointimately connected with the psyche, might provide revealingand therefore interpretable expressions of psychical peculiarity, that is, of the human character'According to Julius Spier “Normal hands have neither too fewnor too many lines. Deviations to either extreme signifydisturbances in the flow of experiences and functioning. Thequality of the lines, especially the main ones, is indicative of themental function which they represent. Lines of good quality arecurved and animated, i.e. lively.” Julius Spier further says that “ The thenar line, called the 'lifeline', surrounds the thumb and the thenar elevation. The namedoes not imply the length of life but rather the vitality of thepersonality. “ Therefore, it is known as the line of Vitality or theConstitution.Referring tohttp://cheiro.co.za/length-of-life-and-lines, we areinformed by Jennifer Hirsch that “There remains in traditionalpalmistry a pervasive myth, which suggests that a palm reader is able to foretell the length of your life, from the length of your “life” line. Yet many people with a short life line live a long life, just as many who die young have long life lines.
