A Parklet is a pavement reuse initiativethat repurposes one or two existingparking spots with a platform thatbrings the grade of the sidewalk out tothe street.Parklets are intended to provide spacefor people to sit, relax and enjoy thecity around them, especially wherenarrow sidewalks would otherwisepreclude such activities. They areintended to be seen as pieces of streetfurniture, providing aestheticenhancements to the overallstreetscape. In the place of carparking, a platform is built to bring thegrade of the sidewalk out into thestreet. Once the platform is installed,benches, tables, chairs, landscaping, andbike parking can all be placed on top inorder to provide a welcoming publicspace along the street. Due to itslocation, parklets must remain publiclyaccessible and require signage to thiseffect.
Parklets provide outdoor publicseating in the curb lane duringthe warm months and promotelocal businesses.
