IPCC Gets It Wrong Again: Himalayan Ice Not Melting, Fresh Water in Arctic Not Increasing

In another stunning blow to two important conclusions of the UNs International Panel for Climate Change (IPCC), new studies from three separate satellites, which are the most accurate to date, prove that glacial ice in the Himalayan mountains has not changed during the past ten years and is not melting. The data also proves that the Arctic ocean is not changing over to fresh water because of glacial melting alleged there. The IPCC, led by controversial Indian scientist Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, rst warned that all ice would melt from the Himalayans before the year 2035. The announcement was criticized by climate experts worldwide, even before it was released. Pachauri is also infamous for falsely stating that cows produce more greenhouse gases than industry does and that if everyone became a vegetarian global warming would stop. Measurements by two satellites launched by NASA and the German Aerospace Center, the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) prove that during the past decade, the same time period the IPCC claims that Himalayan ice was drastically melting, there has been no signicant melting at all. The GRACE results in this region really were a surprise, said professor John Wahr, a Physicist and Fellow at the University of Colorados Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, who analyzed the data and is a member of the GRACE scientic team. One possible explanation is that previous estimates were based on measurements taken primarily from some of the lower, more accessible glaciers in Asia and extrapolated to infer the behavior of higher glaciers. But unlike the lower glaciers, most

of the high glaciers are located in very cold environments and require greater amounts of atmospheric warming before local temperatures rise enough to cause signicant melting. This makes it difcult to use low-elevation, ground-based measurements to estimate results from the entire system. This study nds that the world's small glaciers and ice caps in places like Alaska, South America and the Himalayas contribute about 0.02 inches per year to sea level rise, added Tom Wagner, a Cryosphere Program Scientist with NASA and its GRACE team in Washington DC. GRACE satellites can track changes in the Earth's gravitational eld to within onehundredth the width of a human hair. The probes were launched in 2002 and have a trajectory within the same orbit some 220 kilometers distance from each another. In another surprising development, the IPCCs claim that too much fresh water is lling the Arctic ocean from glacial melt has also been disproved. Changes in the volume and extent of Arctic sea ice in recent years have focused attention on melting ice, said Ron Kwok, a Senior Research Scientist at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Kwok noted that this doesnt present the complete picture. To better understand climate-related changes in sea ice and the Arctic overall, climate models need to more accurately represent the Arctic oscillations low pressure and counterclockwise circulation on the Russian side of the Arctic ocean, added Jamie Morison, the lead oceanographer on the team. The IPCCs research does no such thing. Both the GRACE and ICESat satellites found no increase in the fresh water changes of the Arctic ocean. 1.0v1 January 29, 2012 Kal K.
