it.Sinceoureditorialstaffhasexperttypesetters,wespentagoodlyamountoftimeset-tingoutourowntypeatMonarch-Avalon.Hence,wecalledourselvesMEAD...NowthatVictoryGamesisestablishedandprofitable,wehaveourowntypesettingequipmentinNewYork,andhaveworkedau!productionschedules

WhooutthereamongushasnotfeltthattheU.S.couldhave-shouldhave-donebetterinVietnam?Thattiredoldphrase"nowyoucanchangethecourseofhistory"takesonaddedpowerwhentalkingaboutaVietnamsimulation.Mostofuswoulddearlylovetoseethatpartofourmilitaryhistoryaltered.Ihelpedtoplaytest
Vietnam's
campaigngameandfoundthattheUSplayercanwin,butit'satoughfight.Notsurprisingly,theUSplayerhastouseadifferentstrategythantheonewelostwithhistorically.Simplystated,theUSplayermustseizethestrategicinitiativeandwinthepacificationeffort.EveryactionbytheUSplayerhastobedirectedtowardsincreasingthenumberofpopulationpointsunderSouthVietnam(SVN)control.TherearetwoadvantagesfortheUSwhenhewinsthebattleforcontrollingtheheartsandmindsofthepopulation.
First.
NotonlydoestheUSplayergettofullyformandupgradetheArmyoftheRepublicofVietnam(ARVN),butitallowsthefor-mationofalargepoolofreplacementsforalongwarofattrition.I'veneverlostaUSunit,andseldomanyARVNunits,buttheARVNhasabsorbedlargequantitiesofreplacementsduetoheavyfighting.TheARVNhastosustainamajorpartofthefightingandcasualtiesinordertoprolongtheUSpresencepast1971-1972.

ByreducingtheamountofVietCong(VC)-controlledpopulation,theUSplayerdramaticallycurtailstheeffectivenessoftheVc.NotonlyistheVChardtocatchandkill,theyaretheforcemostabletoslowandhaltthepacificationeffort.ThecosttoformVCunitsincreasesproportionallytotheratioofthe
