Lucy Jayne Craigs
Waterside, Ellington, Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 5JJl.craigs9997@gmail.com07890914730
I am in my final year studying BA (Hons) Journalism at Leeds Metropolitan University and wish to pursue a career in PR or Journalism upon graduating.
I am confident, honest, friendly and hard working. I consistently strive to achieve my highest capability and enjoy anew challenge. I work well individually, as well as a part of a team. I follow instructions well; quickly learning newskills which I can share with others.
Communication skills:
I express myself clearly and concisely in written and verbal communication. I contactedcompanies by telephone, letters and emails to secure work experience placements, where I interviewedclients and the public. In University I have: interviewed and conducted vox pops with the public and professionals, produced radio and television programs, given fluent presentations, produced essays, reports and assignments. I am a Course Representative so attend meetings to discuss the course andissues students have risen.
Numerical skills:
Ability to; use equations, addition, subtraction, ratios, decimals, fractions, averages and percentages. In retail jobs I calculated sale prices, cashed the till and totaled figures. I’ve used mentalarithmetic to calculate figures when working in bars and shops. I can draw and interpret graphs andcharts using IT software. This is useful in displaying quantitative data in my dissertation and will prove useful to illustrate journalism/PR pieces as readers are engaged by statistics and visual aids.
Information Technology skills
: I use Microsoft software: word, excel, publisher and PowerPoint. I use sitesFacebook and Twitter to generate traffic to articles or blogs I have written. I understand Search EngineOptimization and the importance of social media in today’s Network Society. In University and on placements I have used: InDesign, InCopy, Wordpress, Final Cut Pro, Audacity, Autocue and variousrecording equipment. I use Google tools and advance searches to find information not already highlyranked in the public domain which I can create stories from.
Analytical/ problem solving skills
: I grasp ideas quickly and accurately without losing concentration. I canresearch, gather and organise information and do this when writing a journalism or PR piece e.g. whenI re-wrote a PR clients website. I assess the strengths and weaknesses of an argument and can solve problems rationally; I do this in everyday situations as well as essays and exams, in my Governmentexam I achieved the highest grade of the course.
ACTIVITIES & INTERESTS _____________________________________________________________________________________
I am interested in fashion and retail, on which I keep a regular blog, and model for Tyne Tees Models along withvarious other promotion jobs. I enjoy writing; at age 11 I had my first poem published in a children’s creative writing book. Fashion, feature and travel journalism all interest me but I see my future in PR. This year I hope to raise moneyand go to Ghana to teach English in a local school for one month.
