Description

The Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA) is studying the feasibility of resurrecting streetcar services in the Los Angeles downtown area. As part of the process for determining the feasibility, a transportation vision and subsequent role (or purpose) and need for the system must be determined. This vision will then be used to guide the development of alternatives and add to the community buy-in that will be needed to design a successful streetcar system in today’s downtown Los Angeles. To meet this objective, this report reviews the existing and planned transportation facilities and services, demographics, land use and travel characteristics in order to form a basis from which to develop a transportation vision that will outline the purpose and need for a streetcar in downtown.
