GRAFTON STUDIO / FALL 2011

BATHS
DUN LAOGHAIRE, IRELAND
The scheme proposes the removal of the Dun
Laoghaire baths and an occupation of the new
topography, the newly exposed edges, cornersand surfaces of which are used to reconnectsevered seafront paths and establish a newtype of promenade. Bluffs are inhabited, stairstraverse granite faces and paths carve andramp over the surface of the land. Structures
nd a protective expression here, clamping to
the rock against the power of the wind and thesea, cradling and enfolding their occupants asthey enter and exit.
Clockwise from top center: site model (veneer & museum board), excavation model (chipboard), section CC through

DE BRETTEVILLE STUDIO / SPRING 2010REPLICATION: HOUSING FOR AT-RISK YOUTH
NEW HAVEN, CTUsing the precedent of the anomylousmunicipal brick vernacular found in traditionalNew Haven “stick frame” neighborhoods, this proposal confronts issues of privacy, membership and access in a residential
concept for at-risk youth. A required re wall
folds and encloses a double-height commonspace at the street front of the building and
private rooms that are open to a rear garden.
The envelope is cut and opened to take inlight while maintaining the privacy integral tothe program.
Clockwise from top left: transverse section at street front, street facade, side facade perspective, interior perspective
