In exercise of powers conferred under subsection (1) of section 36 of the Wildife (Protection) Act, 1972, it has been declared as Bannerghatta National Park vide Notification No, AFD 61 FFWL 74 dated: 06-25109-1974 published in the Karnataka Gazette dated: 09-01-1975 and the same has been confimed a per the provision conferred under sub section (4) of section 35 of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Central Act of 53 of 1972) as per the Notification No. FEE 19 FWL 98 dated: 05.03.2004. ‘And pow, the Government of Kamataka consider its necessary to aller th limits and boundaries of the said National Park in vow ofthe folowing aspects: |) during the meeting of State Board for Widife of Karnataka chaired by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Kamataka held ‘on 26-07-2011, it has been unanimously resolved to approve the proposal for re-organisation of Bannerghata National Park comprising of reserve forests only 1) subsequently, during the meeting of Standing Committee of National Board for Wille held on 14-10-2011 has {given Its approval for rationalization of boundaries of Bannerghatta National Park vide letter dated 14-11-2011 of Ministy of Environment and Forests, New Delhi ii) since additional Reserve Forest also has better wildlife habitat and i is cortidor for wildlife movements and the areas have adequate ecological, faunal, foal, geomorphological, natural or zoological significance forthe purpose of protecting, propagating or developing Wildlife or is environment and by protecting thase reserve forest wil act 2s barrier to core area and help in better management of wife habia; Iv) the proposed area is quite unique from wildlife point of view as the area is ich in Elephants, Tiger, Leopards, Gaur, Deer, Sambar ete. and also known for reptiles lke Python, Vipers, Monitor Lizard etc. as wel as the area known for innumerable birds and other flora; and V) also, the proposed area acts as a critical wildlife corridor connecting reserved forests of Taminadu, Bengalura Urban Division and Ramanagara Divisions. ‘The Bannerghatta National Park shall not include any of the Revenue Vilages, Patta Lands, Revenue Lands, Gomala Lands and such other areas which do not form any part of State Forests and Raserve Forests. The encroached area ordered for regularization under Government Order No. FEE § FGL 90 dated: 05.05.1997 Jaling under Bannerghatta National Park is also ‘excluded from the Bannerghatta National Park. NOTIFICATION Whereas the Government of Kamataka in exercise of the powers conferrad under Section 26A(b) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 (Amendment in 2006) (Central Act, 632 of 1972) has considered the area, situation and limits which are specified in the schedule below, notification of Bombay and Kamataka Governments vide notification Nos.7F of 01-03-1879, ‘AMise-1042 of 29-9-1921, 8618 of 27-1894, 6008 of 24-6-1911, AFD-2650 FAF 59 of 24-11-1959, an extent of 19042.58 Ha. to declare as “Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary” as itis of adequate ecological, faunal, floral, geomorphological, zoological association ‘r importance fo he purpose of protecting propogating and developing wilde or its environment ‘And now, the Government of Kamataka consider its necessary to deciare the area as Wildife Sanctuary in view of the following aspects: 1) the areas in the core zone of Western Ghats comprising of semi evergreen and evergreen dense forests with steep slopes. The region is having rich floral ang faunal diversity |) this region is having lot of wildlife significance. It is habitat for endangered and endemic wroughton's free tailed bats (Otomops wroughloni) and Theobald's tomb bats (Taphozus theobaldi. Barapede caves are known tobe the only roosting and breeding place for wroughton's fee tallad bas; ii) the forests with beautiful mosaic of woodlands and grass lands are the habitat foc Tigers, Leopards, Indian Gaur (Bisons), Sloth Bear, Sambar, Barking deor, Chital, Wild dogs, King Cobra and a variety of other mammals and repies: IM} this region with richest raservois of bio-iversityis located inthe northeast of Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary of Goa and in the north of Dandeli Wiklife Sanctuary. This entire stretch acts as natural condor for tigers and clephants between Anshi National Park, Dandel widife Sanctuary, Mahaveer and Madel Sanctuaries: \V) this araais the place of origin and Catchment basin for many important rivers like Mahadayi, Malaprabha, andi, Markandeya, Tian, Balinad etc, apart from numberof streams; \%)_ the area encompasses several Geomorphelogical lime stone formations with lots of eaves, which support wide fauna and fora endemic to this location; vi) apart from above, the Sanctuary covers historical Bhimgad for ruin, which neads fo be protected vil) the entire forestlands included in the Annexure -iI to this Notification have been part of the Reserve Forests Issued in various notfieations after setting and accruing the rights. The unique features of this forest desewve to define it as “ECOLOGICALLY SENSITIVE AREA” Further, as the area is also having growth of economically important tree species, and vulnerable even to mild disturbances, and the ‘area demands careful management. Thus, the Chincholl Forest area is considered to be an ECOLOGICALLY AND ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT”. The list of flora and fauna of the area suggests that, this area is ecologically ‘rich’ Valuable’ and ‘Unique’ ieplaceable it destroyed 1) further, by vitue oftheir biclogical richness, they are potentially of high value to human societies, help in maintaining the ‘ecological stability of the area, and be significant in conserving biological diversity.
