Sydney’s Northern Districts encompass several local municipalities and suburbs in this busy
metropolitan region. The area is also popularly referred to as the Northern Suburbs. Little isknown regarding the history of the Northern Suburbs. Information was only recorded when thefirst settlers arrived in the area. The region was originally named Wallumetta, after the
Wallumede population. The Wallumetta Nature Reserve was named after the area’s original
inhabitants.Being cl
ose to Sydney’s Central Business District, this has become a popular area where
residents can enjoy suburbia yet be close enough to their places of business. For thisreason, driving lessons Sydney are essential
for those who don’t, as yet, possess a driving

Although there is ample public transport, such as bus, rail and ferry services, manycommuters still prefer to travel in their own vehicles.North Ryde is a fashionable suburb of Northern Sydney. It is located fifteen kilometers from thecentral business district. Macquarie Park, which was also once part of North Ryde, is the homeof the Macquarie University Campus, a well-known landmark in this suburb. This institution,which was founded in 1964, has a community of approximately 34,000 students. It is also oneof the top research universities of Australia.The suburb of Eastwood, a neighbour of North Ryde, was named by William Rutledge whoarrived with the early settlers in 1788. It has a population of over 14,000. It is popular for itslarge shopping complex and it is famous for its Granny Smith apples. As a celebration, it holdsthe Granny Smith Festival every October. This is a splendid event that attracts over 60,000visitors to its street parties, stalls, and fun rides for adults and children. The Asian populationhas also made its mark by introducing grand firework displays and Chinese dragon performers.
Eastwood’s shopping complex and the Eastwood Plaza are both situated in the town centre.
With a feature fountain and outdoor cafés, this suburb has become a popular meeting place forboth residents and visitors. Many Asian immigrants have set up specialty shops and restaurantsthat attract lovers of Chinese cuisine.Schools in the Northern Districts are plentiful and varied. All ages are catered for, as arechildren with special needs. At the same time, several schools provide education for the variousreligious groups throughout the area. Parents who prefer all-
boys’ or all girls’ schools also have
a wide choice of both private and state education for their children.There are hundreds of commercial businesses and outlets within the northern suburbs. Newresidents can choose to take driving lessons at a Northern Beaches driving school where
Australia’s strict driving regulations can be learnt from professional instructors.
