A case of seasoned physicians’ affinity to EMRS

As seasoned physicians clinical schedule becomes more intense and time-consuming, EMRS may wellbecome indispensable to complementing clinical, operational and medical billingRevenue Cycle Management Cycle(RCM). Because of this necessity and the ability to afford EMRSrelated expenditure, mature physicians see value in adopting EMRS in their practices.Contrary to the popular perception of seasoned or mature doctors being averse to adopting new-agetechnologies in their practices, physicians who started their practices decades ago are asenthusiastic as their younger generation. After an initial bout of apprehension, they are convinced of Electronic Medical RecordSystem’s (EMRS) potential in optimizing clinical and operational efficiency. As seasoned physicians clinical schedule becomes more intense and time-consuming, EMRS may wellbecome indispensable to complementing clinical, operational and medical billing Revenue CycleManagement Cycle (RCM). Because of this necessity and the ability to afford EMRS relatedexpenditure, mature physicians see value in adopting EMRS in their practices.
But, like in the case of any technically novel thing, barriers are usual:

Seasoned practitioners, who had primarily relied on paper files, might find the automated orelectronic system of data filing and retrieval bit unusual. However, with the technology beinguser-friendly, the initial apprehension would gradually fade away as they become familiar withthe mechanism of EMRS.

Next is the issue that seasoned physicians might across is the choice of a service provider fromamongst several entities. Although, all of them claim to be equally competitive, thought mustbe given to as their suitability to the individualistic needs of diverse practice settings. Therefore, practices need to match their needs with providers’ competencies in offeringcustomized EMRS.

Equally important is the decision on whether to go in for hosted EMRS services or a fully-commissioned one. While the former is cost-effective yet it is prone to data security issues. Therefore, even though the initial expenditure might seem heavy, it is always prudent toconsider a fully-commissioned EMRS.

Having an EMRS alone is not enough; there should be a dedicated staff that is well-trained tomanage comprehensive EMR tasks. Therefore, physicians have to find a way to orient theirinternal staff to the demands of as dynamic a technology as EMRS.
