LORDS PRAYER Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. Scripture Reading Matthew 4:1-11 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. Jesus answered, It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. If you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down. For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Jesus answered him, It is also written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Again, the devil took him to

a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. All this I will give you, he said, if you will bow down and worship me. Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
Blessing of Ashes Prayer Father in heaven, the sacrifice of your death on the cross for our sins gives hope to a world of darkness. May this time of repentance bring us the blessing of your forgiveness and the gift of your Salvation. Grant this through Christ our Lord. To each one here at this altar, let us ask our Father to bless these ashes as symbolic of our sin that we confess just now. Take a moment of silent prayer as we pause to confess any known sin at this time. (Pause for silent prayer) Lord, bless the sinner who asks for your forgiveness and bless all those who partake of these ashes as a reminder of our forgiven sins. May we keep this Lent season in preparation for the joy of Easter. May we keep each commitment to draw closer to You, during this season. Help us get to know you better in building our personal relationship with You. We ask this through Christ our Lord. (Take ashes) Lord, bless these ashes by which we show that we are but dust and in great need of a great Savior. Thank you for forgiveness of our sins, and keep us faithful to the discipline of Lent. May we live daily with the risen Christ, who reigns forever, and ever. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
