February 21, 2012Dear Applicant:This year we are again offering two scholarships for the Madeleine Grant MemorialScholarship. I am attaching 20 packets with the application information.Each packet contains all necessary forms and return envelopes to the Chamber of Commerce office. We will need all applications returned no later than April 6, 2012. Wewill notify the schools and the winning students by May 4, 2012. Obviously, as in thepast, if the winning applicant should be from Niles West High School, we would bepleased to be part of any presentations you schedule to honor these students.Background information regarding the scholarship in the form of a short bio is alsoincluded in each packet. We would appreciate this bio being included in any programsthat may list scholarship awards.My business card has been included in each packet, should any applicants have anyadditional questions. Email is the easiest way to communicate with me and I would bedelighted to answer their questions.We are pleased to award, two $500 scholarships this year. The Madeleine Grant Memorial Scholarship
Madeleine Grant served as the Lincolnwood Village President from 1993 until heruntimely death from cancer in November of 2000. However, her communityinvolvement dated back to the 1970’s in a variety of positions including:* Founding member of the Lincolnwood Library Board of Trustees* President of the North Suburban Library System* Member of the Board of the Northwest Municipal Conference and its chairperson forLong Range Planning* Executive Board member of the Solid Waste Agency for Northern Cook County* Chairperson of Suburban United WayShe also found time to be the coordinator of the Religious Education Department atQueen of All Saints Parish in Chicago.Madeleine was a wife and mother of five children who lived in the Lincolnwood Villagefor 37 years. Yet she always found time to work within the community or to donate hertime whenever a new challenge presented itself. The foundation for her leadershipeffectiveness was her ability to encourage business and citizen participation in localgovernment matters.This scholarship was established in 2001 by the Lincolnwood Chamber of Commerce &Industry. Its purpose is to recognize area students who have demonstrated a strongcommitment to the qualities that Madeleine Grant held so high in her own life’s journey –Family, Education, Community and Friendships.
Lincolnwood Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Any graduating senior who will be continuing his/her education,who is a permanent resident in Lincolnwood, Illinois, or who isan immediate family member of a Lincolnwood Chamber ofCommerce & Industry member in good standing.
The Madeleine Grant Memorial College Scholarship is awarded bythe Lincolnwood Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Twoscholarships, a minimum of $500 each, will be awarded. Therecipients must be continuing their education at a two year or fouryear institute of high learning.
1. Complete High School transcript of grades2. Essay of 500 to 700 words on assigned topic. Topic for the2012 Scholarship application process is – 
“What do you feelthe Lincolnwood Community needs and how can those needs bemet?”
3. List of school and community activities while in High School.4. Two letters from adult references. These letters may befrom the school and/or community and should not be relatedto the applicant. These references should includeinformation concerning character, and motivation.
Notification and
Notification will be made no later than May 4, 2012, to
: scholarship recipient and high school guidance counselor.Payment is made upon receipt of class schedule forcontinuing education courses within one year of applicationdate. Payment will be made directly to the school listedon the schedule. This is a one time, non-renewable award.Repayment is not required.

All completed applications and materials must be received in theChamber office by April 6, 2012.
Only complete application packages will be reviewed by theScholarship Committee. The appointed members of the committeewill select winning recipients based on all criteria mentioned above.
