Charlotte Christian vs Charlotte Latin

By Derek Young Friday Feb. 4th, Charlotte Christian gym was crowded waiting for the matchup with Charlotte Latin, a rivalery between the two small private schools. Latin comes in the Christian gym with a young team looking to find a key win for the conference. Christian being ranked 2nd in the state is looking to step forward and continue their very successful season. Right off the bat start center Anthony Gill starts off the game right with a two hand slam to set the tone. Gill has been averaging over 20 points a game so far this season for CC. Christian starting out shooting lights out with three 3-pointers from Ben Richter, who has a very smooth outside shot, and very confident at that. CC looked to play with intense defense for the rest of the game, very physical in the face of Latin the whole game. However, Charlotte Latin did not go easy, the undersized team kept showing a lot of heart with driving the ball fearlessly against the bigger CC, drawing fouls and making foul shots. The Junior, Matt Tome for Latin stepped up to the plate, and showed that Latin would not go easy, leaving the game with 13 points and a few assists. Latin never backed down from the longer and larger CC, and continued to try and find a way to score. You could feel it in the gym that Latin was falling behind but was not going to go away, they fought their way back when the CC bench started to come in the game. Latin continued to drive the ball making CC frustrated but as the game went on the aggressive CC starting to work the ball inside with ease. Christian with a very deep athletic bench started to wear down

the LC starters. Gill started to take the game over inside, blocking shots and throwing down slams with authority. He really started to take the game over in the beginning of the 4th quarter, finished with 26 points, many which were dunks. CL fought hard until the end, with a buzzing gym CC wins the game with a score of 75-40. Charlotte Christian plays basketball powerhouse Oak Hill Academy on February 15th.
