01. The Statutory basis for grant of wirelesslicense:
The Indian Telegraph Act,1885(ITA, 1885) and rules made
thereunder provide statutory basis for grant of licences by theCentral Government for establishment, maintenanceor working of
wirelessapparatus, equipment and appliances.
The Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933 (IWTA 1933)andrules made thereunder, provide the Central Governmentwith powers to grant licences for possession of suchwirelessapparatus, equipment and appliances.
Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing of Ministryof Communications & IT exercises powers of the CentralGovernment for grant of suchlicencesunder Section 4 of the ITA,1885 and Section 5 of IWTA1933.1.1 The chronology of Service Licence procedures is atAnnexure-I.
