STAVANGER
Stavanger is truly Norways Oil & Food Capital. It is the
headquarters of oil companies operating in the North Sea,
giving the city an international flavour, which in turn has
spurred the development of a buzzing night life and world
class restaurants that have given birth to Michelin-star chefs.
Still it has retained its charm as a small seaside town
surrounded by dramatic and breathtaking scenery.

THE CITY#THECITY#
Stavanger has the largest concentration of
high quality restaurants and bars relative
to population and size - of any Norwegian
city. It is beautifully located in a horse
shoe around the harbour that every August
attracts the Tall Ships race. The harbour,
called Vaagen, is lined with pubs, bars and
restaurants. During the Beach volleyball
world tour, it turns into one big beach
volleyball arena and for the "happy food
festival, it is an open air eatery where you
can get a taste of local produce, do a
cooking course, or simply enjoy an ice-cold
beer in the sun that doesnt set till 11 pm
during the summer.
Just a two minute walk from Vaagen lies
Soelvberget (The Silver Hill), on which you
can get lost in the many winding streets
while shopping.
Stavanger is also the main gateway to the
beautiful and dramatic nature of the
south-west Norway. Do not miss a day trip
to the Pulpit Rock, or a cruise on the
Lysefjorden. Or simply catch the bus to
Sola Beach - for a swim, sunbathing, or,
during winter: let yourself be blown away
by the dramatic scenery and strong winds
that dominate the region.
Note: unless otherwise stated, all bars,
restaurants, hotels, things to see and do
are within walking distance of the city
centre bus stop. All bus connections are
from the city centre bus stop.

SHOPPING#SHOPPING#
Stavanger is a compact city that offers all
amenities within walking distance of the
main city bus stop by the cathedral and
the Breiavatnet lake. From there you can
walk along the harbour (Vaagen), or
venture in direction East up the small hill
Soelvberget where Old Stavanger is. This
area is completely pedestrianised. You can
walk from one end of Soelvberget to the
other in 10 mins, but then, with all the
small, winding streets you might easily find
yourself window shopping for three hours
without having seen it all. Here you find
everything from high-street fashion to
small specialty and designer shops.
Soelvberget is also riddled with lovely little
cafes and plazas where you can rest your
feet.
If you work your way through Soelvberget
to the other side, you can walk another
100 meters up the road to Pedersgata.
Here is a flea market throughout the
summer months, every Saturday from 8
am till 3 pm. In Pedersgata you can find
used book and dvd-stores, flower shops
and little antique stores.
Going in the other direction from the city
bus stop, West of the harbour, you
stumble upon little eclectic artefacts and
clothes shops, as well as Asian food stores
in Loekkeveien and in Nedre and Oevre
Strandgate.
