Sampling from Wagons during loading or unloading

Complete rake is divided into six sub-lots. In order to get a representative gross sample coal shall be sampled in a steady motion. By means of random table a min of 25% of the wagons shall be selected from the sub-lot . Min 50 no of increments of weight approx 7kg to be collected from one sub-lot. Gross sample to be collected for one rack will be approx 2100 kg

Laboratory Sample Preparation

The gross sample collected shall be crushed to 5 cm by mechanical means mixed thoroughly and quartered. This process to be done for at least two times. Then crushed to 12.5 mm by a jaw crusher and then to 3.35 mm by palmac type. The crushed sample is reduced either by coning and quartering or by riffling till 2kg of sample is obtained. The sample as reduced shall be finally ground to pass through 212 micron IS sieves. From the ground material 1.5 kg shall be constitute the laboratory sample. The laboratory sample shall be divided into three equal parts, one for the purchaser, another for supplier and the third for referee. Note: The sample shall be kept in a glass or polyethylene container and shall be sealed and marked properly

Moisture Sample
At the time of reduction of gross sample to 12.5 mm collect approx 5 kg of sample by not less then 10 approx equal increments. Reduce this sample to as near to 1kg as possible and put the sample so reduced in air tight tin and seal it without delay.
