Queen Elizabeth I the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn was Queen of England for almost forty-five years. Two and a half years after her birth her mother wasexecuted and she was declared illegitimate. Nun the less at the age of twenty-five shetook the throne and became Queen of England. Elizabeth oversaw a vibrant age of exploration and literature a
nd established herself as a national icon, the Virgin Queenwhose legend endures to this day (Richards 1). Elizabeth was England¶s second femalemonarch and was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. Widely known as TheVirgin Queen and Good Queen Bess she was and is one of the best loved and mostadmired monarchs of England.
She was born on 7 September 1533 at Greenwich Palace. Her father King Henryoriginally wanted a male heir so her birth was a great disappointment to him. He wanteda son to succeed him as he already had a daughter, Mary, by his first wife, Katherine of Aragon. He had not divorced Katherine, and changed the religion of the country to do so;he ended up having another daughter so it¶s easy to see why he was disappointed.Elizabeth's early life was troubled.
