MaintenanceAmbassadorReport1) Update fromRick Williams
Rick informed the committee that instances of graffiti in the districts are down and that trashand litter pick up has increased by two bagsper day.Rick explained that urine abatement continuesto be an issue, specifically at 12
th
andBroadway in front of Community Bank. Rickintends to do some outreach to propertyowners to request that they look into installingpull-down gates. To that point, Michelle and Tanicia interjected that those gates are bothunsightly and costly. Rick explained that anydoorway near a bus stop becomes a bathroom, and, as a result, his calls are increasing daily.Marco advised coordinating a meeting with AC Transit to deal with public restroom issue.Steve interjected that Blair Miller of CEDA isasking about maintenance because the BARTgateway at 17
th
is experiencing the sameissue.Rick explained that the 8 Summer youthinterns will have completed approximately1,000 hours by Summer’s end. The internshave been responsible for cleaning garbagecans on Broadway, tree-well maintenance andweed abatement in Uptown (specifically themedians on 23
rd
, 24
th
, and 25
th
). Rickexpressed that this group of interns have beenfantastic.Rick explained that he has been receiving callsfrom property owners inquiring aboutadditional power washes. Typically the powerwashing is done twice a year; however, certainhigh traffic areas require more frequentservice.Steve will be meeting with the propertyowners to explain that there is a limitedbudget, but that it may be possible to buyadditional services.Marco advised that property owners need togo through our office to receive supplementalservices and asked that Rick provide us withan hourly rate. The money will go to Peralta, but the CBD’s will be the first point of contact. The same sort of arrangement could bearranged with Block by Block, but theseservices would only available to members of the district.

installation/relocation. In addition, the lettergranted maintenance ambassadors access toSnow Park and the Veteran’s Building on theweekends. Security ambassadors can goanyplace at any time, but maintenanceambassadors have limited weekend access toSnow Park and the Veteran’s Building, but noaccess at any time to Frank Ogawa Plaza. Inregards to the medians, they are consideredno man’s land right now.Andrew submitted the Adopt–a- Medianapplication to Brooke Levin in February, buthas received no response. Marco emailedVitaly Troyan, PWA director, and asked whythere had been no response. Vitaly requestedthe application from Brooke last week and stillthere has been no response.
EncroachmentPermit Process:-Hanging Plants-Banners-Trachcans-Next steps
Andrew explained that Columbine is ready togo with the hanging plants on September 1
st
and that we are simply awaiting a responsefrom Tim Lowe before proceeding.Marco interjected that we also want to followup with Columbine regarding the medians.Andrew went on to explain that part of thehanging plant and median contract processwill be separating out the two projects, per LizClark’s recommendation. This is necessarybecause one project will begin before theother. Trashcans and banners have been approvedand we are now in the design phase for thebanners. The City has been convinced to remove theaggregate cans along Broadway and replacethem with the Renaissance-style cans. 6 havebeen replaced so far and recycling tops havebeen installed on the aggregate cans.Marco recommended moving the Renaissancecans to the corners to create the uniformity weare going for. At least on Broadway, from 9
th
to 25
th
, on each corner, there should be abranded Renaissance can. Tanicia asked Andrew to provide her with abudget that includes everything line by line soshe can submit her grant request to StopWaste.Andrew explained that he will need to need toget back to her with those figures because theproject has multiple phases with differentexpenses and budgets.Marco interjected that we need to look to theCity to spend redevelopment money andadvised waiting until next year to proceed withadding additional cans. The City should give
