Health Care Freedom Pledge

for Members of the Arizona Legislature

Whereas, I believe that patients, not politicians and bureaucrats, should be in control of health care decisions, Whereas, I believe that President Obama's health care legislation will make health care more expensive and less accessible, and will stifle innovation through huge new tax and regulatory burdens, Whereas, I believe that President Obama's health care legislation ultimately puts all control in the hands of Washington, through endless regulations and unfunded mandates on Arizona, Whereas, I believe that any exchange set up in Arizona pursuant to President Obama's health care legislation will end up being subject to the dictates of the federal health bureaucracy, Whereas, I understand that President Obama's health care system, as enacted, is dependent upon the creation of state exchanges for the distribution of federal subsidies, and that the system will be easier to repeal if Arizonans are not allowed to become addicted to federal subsidies, Whereas, I believe we need a sustainable safety net health care system in Arizona and that the current system is near its breaking point and cannot handle the massive Washington-forced expansion of Medicaid and creation of new health care entitlement programs, I hereby pledge to OPPOSE any bill, regulation, legislation, or executive action that implements President Obama's health care legislation, including bills that create new bureaucracies that must be funded by new surcharges, fees, or taxes of any kind.
